Attempted break-in at Heathfield Terrace
Hi all,I hope this message finds everyone safe. I wanted to make everyone aware of an attempted break-in, so that you increase your vigilance and security.I live at Heathfield Terrace, in a building with 3 flats. On the evening of October 21st at 9:30pm I heard the buzzer to my flat ringing twice and soon after that (under a minute, I estimate) a key was turning into my top lock. I called my fearless neighbour, who was in the pub nearby, he came running and intercepted a young, short man in front of my door, who then ran away to a car parked nearby--a Toyota Aygo with a number plate starting with RJ72. After the fact we obviously made the flats and the building as secure as Fort Knox (high-security locks, cameras, etc). Lessons I drew from the experience:1. Answer your front door (talk to them via the intercom or through the locked door)--they likely won't break into an occupied building2. Take care who you give your house keys to or where you place a spare key (e.g. not under your front door rug or in the flower pot!)3. Pay attention to suspicious behaviour around your home (people loitering, taking photos, making marks, etc)4. Place security cameras around your house, inside and out5. Keep all doors and windows closed/locked at all times6. Keep car keys away from doors and windows--we've been told they are the main target of break-ins.Stay safe!Roxana
