If you understood the timeline you would understand that the panic in the markets was caused by statements from the Bank of England. They basically installed Sunak who was not even the most popular candidate (far from it).The Truss/Kwarteng mini budget was just a naive attempt reintroduce a modicum of “fiscal conservatism” (whatever the hell that means these days) which the BoE didn’t want. I was a soft coup.

The problem with the generally right-wing GBNews and Talk is that, although they have comparatively few actual viewers, the generally right-wing print media is happy to monitor them on the look-out for meaty - or even totally non-meaty - quotes and stories that they can run with and get a good cheap headline - which I'm sure Boris will provide in numbers. Then the main TV News channels magnify the effect again with their programmes that review the daily Newspapers, which are, of course, predominantly right wing.

Trump suggested bleach to cure Covid. Johnson watched a YouTube video and believed that a hairdryer up the nose was the answer.  The Covid Enquiry is shedding light on the dreadful mismanagement of the Covid crisis led by Johnson who saw no problem with letting bodies pile high and letting his senior advisor get away with misogynistic vile and vile abuse of others.  But people will still want to watch him on GB news because to admit that he is a venal narcissist would be admission that they grossly misjudged his character and that he has made fools of them all.

Stop making assumptions. I have never watched GB news, and can't imagine any circumstances in which I might be tempted to do so. As for Starmer's stance on Gaza, I have written to Ruth Cadbury to complain about it (and yes, since you'd probably otherwise ask the question, I have received a substantive reply from her). There is some reason to the idea that calling for a pause in the fighting is preferable to a call for a cease-fire. It should be quicker and easier to negotiate, and speed is of the essence in addressing the plight of those trapped in Gaza.So if you want to make this a party political issue, what do you say about the Tory front bench? They're not merely afraid to voice opposition to Israeli vengeance, they want to shut down debate on the issue. The monstrous Home Secretary has called support for Palestinians "hate speech", whilst the rather more timid Sunak has contented himself with the observation that a pro-Palestinian protest on Armistice Day would be provocative and disrespectful. I can't think of a more appropriate day to protest against the horrors of war.
