Republic Indian Restaurant

Does anyone know what has happened to the Republic restaurant on Chiswick High Road? It’s looking very closed sadly.

Seems to be permanently closed.  I guess they just weren’t able to attract enough customers.  A shame, it was a very superior curry house.

Sadly Indian restaurants are closing all over London. They are experiencing a perfect storm of increased rents, increased business rates and ingredient costs shooting through the roof notably oil and onions. My local wonderful Nepalese restaurant which I enjoyed for 38 years closed recently, as have five other Indian and Bangladeshi restaurants locally within the last six months.

We ate there once and really enjoyed it but the problem for it was that it wasn't quite as good as Indian Zing and was possibly more expensive.

Agreed! It was also a bit too "fusion" for me. I think Julian's right that it was at the wrong end of the High Road.

Each time we went in to book we were told it was online reservations only. And the one time we did manage to secure a table we were shown to the worst one, despite an empty room, and told to lump it. We left.  Indian Zing has never let us down, nor the Hampshire on King St. Well worth a visit.

Potli on King Street gets my vote.  Always great food.

Indian Zing and Potli are good. I think Black Salt in East Sheen is better but not as good as its cousin Dastaan in Ewell, which admittedly is long curry pilgrimage.
