It's National Recycling Week 2023

Too cold for gin and tonic and it's always chocolate day in the office!  Luckily I'm strong enough willed to not succumb.Since it's National Recycling Week how about the news on the front page about the new proper recycling centre much more along the lines of the Repair Cafes and Fixing Stations that Stirling Road HWRC is apparently going to be turned into?  It doesn't sound as though there will be a general waste section as it is much more to do the Circular Economy.  First in London?  I thought there was something at Smugglers Way in Wandsworth and there is something in Brent.  So it will be interesting to hear more!

Stirling Road is reopening because the clowns on Ealing council got their figures wrong. Greenford Road is over capacity but is reducing to just five days opening a week? Heaven help us all if a new Labour government is all the bad bits of Ealing & Hounslow councils with a little, very little, bit of Khan thrown in!

Ealing are the staff at Greenford to just a six operatives. A real shame because some of those guys have been there for years and years and do a mighty fine job. All to save c.£80,000. Ealing will.probably spend more clearing the resultant flytipping.

Kerbside collections have changed a lot over the years with a much bigger increase in different things collected.  There are also a lot of online marketplaces for second hand goods - and many of them much more specific than a junk shop or charity shop would be - which is helpful.I remember taking some cardboard to Stirling Road before it was collected kerbside and being told to put it in the crusher or take it to Greenford. I took it back home and wrote to the Council asking why there wasn't a collection at Stirling Road especially since it was definitely recyclable (unlike all the plastic) - and that was before all this online buying took off.  Change happens.
