Drain Clearance Scam?
In mid-September two men claiming to be from South West Drainage rang our doorbell and said that our sewer was blocked and offered to clear it. Their uniforms were badged as South West Group, they produced a printed leaflet, they were pleasant and personable and overcame my initial doubts (I checked on-line that South West Drainage was a registered company, but did not notice that they were based in Wincanton).I foolishly paid them £350 cash for twenty minutes work 'clearing' the drain. On 26th September an older man rang the bell and said that he was a supervisor checking on the previous workmen; our drain was still blocked and he would arrange a clearance free of charge as we had already paid. I declined the offer.I have searched for the company on West London recommended traders sites but cannot find them. Is it possible that they are legit?Has anyone else in the area had a similar experience?
