Dott bikes pull out of  London (Evening Standard)

"dockless e-bike firm is quitting London — and sending its bikes to Paris — saying that the capital’s bike rental market is “totally out of control”. YepMany people use them. Go out between 6am and 9 am and they are all being used to commute to work or to stations.You want the tube and your south of CHR your hire one if its your thing rather than a good walk or busYour see loads of lime bikes around TGT of a morning and gone by the evening as people cycle to TGT for instance in the morning and cycle back from TGT of a evening.You may have other ideas but that is fact. Most likely the same in other parts and areas

Lime are owned by that cash cow Uber who also have a seemingly endless supply of mugs willing to pay inflated prices for groceries and take away meals.

One of the main reasons Dott say they are pulling out is the  lack of control, regulation, enforcement and coordination by local authorities and TfL.My view is that too many providers were allowed to pile in with no overall plan or consistent regulation for London resulting in "another fine mess you've got me into" Hurr!The article below expands the point.https://www.standard.co.uk/news/transport/dockless-unregulated-abandoned-bikes-new-rules-tfl-b1072718.html

Lime are not owned by Uber, though they are I think an investor. But Lime took over Uber's bike business. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lime_(transportation_company)The point of the parking bays in Hounslow is precisely to take some control of where they are left. It hasn't worked very well so far but is certainly improving. Weirdly, I got only one complaint in 2 years when you could basically leave them anywhere but had a spate of complaints when the bays started.

Guy how many members of Hounslow cycling are on Hounslow Council? Why was C9 made permanent when the majority don’t want it? Are there still safety issues? When it was temporary, if it was decided to remove it how would that have been paid for? Are Hounslow Council biased towards cyclists? Thanks

My mistake. Uber led the second round of funding for Lime, effectively underwriting their expansion outside the USA.

Lots of complaints about the cost of Lime bikes if I remember correctly.Costs increasing etc I suppose the issue of having your own bike stolen regularly makes it worth considering hiring 🤷‍♀️
