Manor Circus bridge repair works

Kew and Richmond rather congested with traffic due to the bridge repair works at Manor Circus. The previously reluctant Richmond Council putting in emergency LTNs around the area to protect upset residents from rat running traffic (watch the residents resist these being removed post bridge works). It got me thinking yesterday - you know all those Chiswick people who no longer visit Chiswick High Road because of the cycle lane and drive to Richmond to do their shopping instead? Where are they going now?

Personally I drive to lots of different places. Greenford has free parking, a nice shopping  area similar to Kew Retail. Ashford, Surrey lovely little village type area. Lots of “ordinary” affordable places to eat. Lots of free parking , Tesco is my go to instead of Sainsbury’s. Lots of extra driving miles . Miles and miles and miles. That’s the result of the changes. I haven’t ditched my car, I don’t walk more. Less in fact now that I don’t walk to the High Road like I used to. These places I visit aren’t easily accessible on PT, because they stupidly tried to stopus driving without increasing other choices. All your fault that I drive so many more miles. I have the time of course, that helps.  Oh and very few cyclists to avoid that’s a bonus😂👍

Planck's quantum theory was not accepted? Part of the problem was that Planck's route to the formula was long, difficult and implausible—he even made contradictory assumptions at different stages, as Einstein pointed out later. In other words you’re wrong Paul 😂

Ah Maggie Dodge tries to explain quantum physics, this forum never ceases to amaze.Planck's quote was "“a new scientific truth does not triumph by convincing its opponents and making them see the light, but rather because its opponents die, and a new generation grows up that is familiar with it.”Sometimes summarised as, science progresses one funeral at a time.The point being, its unlikely that large numbers of opponents to an idea will have a road to Damascus conversion but instead, they gradually die off and are replaced by younger generations who are used to the new idea.

We've been visiting Kew Retail Park for years, well before the Cycleway, because it offered a range of shops that wasn't available in Chiswick and had free parking. It was relatively easy to get to but with these works it probably won't be accessible for a while and redevelopment must be due to start quite soon.I hate Westfield so if anyone has a suggestion for a place with a similar range to Kew Retail for an occasional shop where you stock up on clothes and household items which would be too heavy to take home other than in a car, I'd be grateful to hear it.

I look forward to your letter to Nature or another respected scientific journal explaining why the Planck constant, Planck length, Planck Institutes for research and the Planck space telescope all need to be renamed because "Planck was wrong".

It’s called Westway Cross . TK Max, Boots, Next, Hobbycraft. Sports shop. Travel Shop. Costa , M &S food. Pound shop.a few others I think  I go toMeet my sister for coffee as it’s a halfway point for us. So I don’t always shop.

Ni TK Maxx but a place I have only entered twice and exited quickly. Saved me wasting money on the mainly cruddy stuff they sell. Chiswick has Robert Dyas, Waitrose. Sainsburys, Oliver Bonas (means little to me but people are complaining we haven't in Brentford) Mackens, that other posh butcher, 2 (at least) ice cream parlours, lots of restaurants for every taste and most budgets, good pubs - lots of them - and 3 bike shops. Even Lovell's (I've been looking at it for 40 years but still no idea...)

There is an excellent TK Maxx on the Ivybridge Retail Park on Twickenham Road in Isleworth which sells many useful items at value-for-money prices. Obviously not posh enough for Cllr. Lambert.

Guy, the bike showroom that was Sofa Workshop has shut, so two. Speaking to the owner he told me it was the cycle lane and Sunday Markets that drove them out of business.May God strike me down if that ain't the Gospel truth!:)

4 bike shops Adrian: Balfes, Fudges, Halfords and Woolseys.  Maybe Cllr Lambert was referring to 3 on Chiswick High Rd.Some people may want to argue about Woolseys as they describe themselves as 'Woolseys of Acton' but they do have a W4 postcode.+ Bike and London Cycle Workshop on King St will be closer than the W4 ones for some people in Chiswick.

It seems a bit strange to compare Greenford, which is a part of Ealing to Chiswick. Maybe Ealing Broadway might be a better  option (maybe not given Ealing's lack of care that the council gives to the place).

Ealing is too big and you have to pay to park. Obviously if there was a shop  I wanted there I’d go. But I was disappointed the last time I went. To busy too.

Never been on a Saturday but during the week and Sunday seems to bea constant flow of customers rather than peak hours plus they are buyingespecially from the pet shop people seem to bulk buy from there whereasother areas you wander around thinking well I can't buy that the car is toofar away etc., and the further you travel Ricky and beyond there are lotsof places you are able to shop like that it's a delight.

Indeed we do, browsing is solely for shops selling records or model railways where I can become lost for hours. When my beloved goes shopping to Kew Retail Park I either take the current Private Eye or a book and stay in the car. :-)

Ignoring some of the provocative comments in the thread, the problem is that it isn't just these roadworks.There are also temporary lights on the South Circular.  Why those have been allowed at the same time I don't know.  If it's meant to be some kind of emergency situation, why have they been there so long?  They have already been there about 2 weeks.There does need to be some joined up thinking on this kind of stuff - especially with Hammersmith Bridge still closed.

Took over an hour to drive from Richmond to Grove Park the other day. I won't be going that way again while the Manor Roundabout roadworks are in operation, and I suspect that they're having a noticeable effect on Sainsbury's and businesses west of Chiswick Bridge.

Al there are lots of conspiracy theories about works designed to make driving difficult. Do you think there’s any truth to it. As you say joined up thinking is all that’s necessary if they cared about keeping things moving. Do you think they are not capable of that , or communicating with each other. Perhaps fines would make them think twice. It seems to be the go to solution for driving infringements

It's simply a lack of joined up thinking.Driving past the Waterworks Museum yesterday morning (how long have those roadworks been there simply to implement a cycle lane?) I noticed that the newly resurfaced carriageway is being marked out for roadworks with a few 'pilot' holes already dug out.How I wish that we had the German model of "do it once, do it right"  (Einmal, Richtig) where there are heavy penalties for digging up a road (except for emergencies) within three years of the surface being laid.
