Sainsbury Shopping online

I had an argument with Sainsbury when delivering items purchased online.Ocado deliver in bags, Waitrose are prepared to transfer your items into your bags but Sainsbury tell me they only deliver but do not pack. Their driver was very belligerent and said that he only delivers and does not pack into the customer's bags.Do they just put all the items on your door step ? How do others manage ? Many thanks Bina

YepThey bring your order to the doorstep,always have done since 2020 and cutting down on bag waste. You just take the items and bring them in yourself,or bring the crate in and return to doorstep.To be honest,why need bags at your doorstep and your only paying for a delivery service to the door and nothing else

I actually support the way that Sainsburys delivers.  The items are in crates and you can unload and put them in your own bags or bring the crate in to your kitchen and return it when you have unloaded it.  This saves on plastic bags which must be a good thing.  I have always found the delivery drivers to be friendly and cheerful.

Exactly. Sainsbury's make it abundantly clear at point of order that they pack without bags. Don't like it? Use another supermarket.

Never had a problem picking the items delivered to my doorstep out of the plastic crates and carrying them inside myself. Don’t need any bags and if I needed them I would use the heavy duty multi use ones that last for years.  I can see that it might be difficult for some customers with health issues to bend down to pick heavy items out of the crates but Sainsbury’s/Tesco have never taken trays inside and unpacked items as part of the service.

Surprised that they don't offer the customer the option of at least having the crate left on a tablr. Presumably it would impact on their liability insurance. Requiring customers to bend down to floor level or go through similar contrortions in their supermarkets is the least anyone could expect of Sainsbury in their relentless pursuit of profit; And I'd always assumed that one of the advanatges of having goods delivered was avoiding all that. Because bending down to pick things up from floor level when not absolutely necessary, is a sure fire recipe for developing back problems unless done properly by fully bending the knees. So inviting knee problems instead,  Never mind how this would impact on anyone with serious mobility problems.michael adams

What does this have to do with Chiswick and this forum? Surely speaking to Sainsbury's directly would have given you answers.

Possibly to find out if people in the locality have a similar experience or whether different Sainsbury's drivers take a different approach?

I now only use Sainsburys for very small orders if they have a slot free earlier than Ocado, or if I want some bread.  It's too time consuming to stand there packing while the driver stands there with his (usually) arms folded. Usually use Ocado or Ocado Zoom.

I hope that the Ocado bags are at least biodegradable as are the ones used by Morrisons. You can also return bags to the driver on the next visit and you get money off the shop according to how many returned. That's how I remember it, in any case.I largely use Waitrose and the drivers are always, post-Covid, happy to bring the crates inside where they put them on a table or worktop which makes it quick and easy to unload. During Covid, I would take a small table to the door  for the driver to put the crates on, one at a time, while I unloaded into my own bags. I still found this quite tiring but it is nowhere near as taxing as bending down to floor level. Just have your little table and bags at the ready if Sainsburys won't carry through to the kitchen.
