How does the Stand on Green Traffic restriction work?

Can I drive to the Steam Packet area from Grove Park ... and then go back the same way without getting nicked?

Yes park up for a few minutes and you should be ok.

As I understand it, if you're visiting anywhere along that stretch of road, you can equally drive out the other end.

If you are going to visit the pub, give them a ring and they should be able to confirm the current situation. As far as I am aware there is no ANPR camera enforcement at this site as the restriction is too confusing to enforce this way. Others will know better but a visit to the pub qualifies as legitimate access for the purpose of the signed restrictions so you wouldn't be fined even if they were being enforced.

Thanks all. Really confusing. But this morning I took the risk of driving from Grove Park up to the camera just before Spring Gardens. And parked there for 10 minutes before turning around and heading back the other way.... and now I wait.

I think you mean Spring Grove. The camera there is for enforcing ULEZ not for catching people driving through.Unless someone knows different.

SimonI regularly enter Thames Road / Strand  on the Green from St Paul Church on Hartington Road to visit the post office ever since the restriction came into force. Then I leave the same way which is what the the sign says for access.If I were to drive through and leave via Kew bridge, in theory you would get PCN But as there are no cameras to enforce this stretch of road I cannot see how you could get one.I’ve even driven up about three quarters of the way  up the road and did a U turn as I had forgotten something. You do get the Camera Car parked along Thames road, but what that can do is limited as it only sees the area around it.So you would have to be the unluckiest person in the world to receive a PCN for the trial run you have just done
