Mobile phone theft

Just a word to warn outdoor diners in the high road to keep their mobiles somewhere safe.  Mine was stolen last night as I ate at the front of High Road Brasserie.  A woman came in to that paved area of seating, distracted both me and the friend I was with by waving a laminated card around, staring at us rather unnervingly but saying nothing.  Eventually we were able to shoo her away, but moments later I realised she’d taken my phone… and she quickly disappeared from view.Infuriating, obviously, but I should add that the restaurant were very helpful afterwards, and the police have done what they can since.  I thought I was reasonably streetwise about these things, but this woman was alarmingly smart.

That is very common. Anyone approaching a table with a map,card,paper,big issue and other items will most likely be after something on your table.

I don't understand why people insist on putting on display in either bars or restaurants their lighters, phones or car keys.  Surely that's what pockets are for.

There is a spate of smartphone pilfering at High road tables recently.The wretched perpetrators are adroit at picking off diners off guard.

I had someone attempt this method on me in Italy not too long ago. Having had previous warnings from people who it had happened to in Chiswick I was not caught out.Does anyone know if the Mayor and the Met Commissioner have a point about mobile phone theft being preventable if it was not possible to reregister a stolen phone? It is easy to do then that must mean that the mobile phone makers factor in phone theft to maintain their profits.
