Regarding shoplifting:This system is there to close one of the gaps. If one wants to, say, take a banana and walk out then there are a number of ways, at Sainsbury's1. Go through one of the manned tills, which can be1a. Manned with an attendant1b. Closed and thus not manned2. Go through the self service tills3. Leave through the main entrancePoint 1 (and sub-point 1.a) have either an attendant who could (emphasis on could) stop the banana theft from happening; as for Point 1.b, there is normally a sort of a barrier to close that particular lane. Point 3. has the security guard there. Point 2. was thus far unguarded. Now, that's no longer the case.Does it mean that it's now IMPOSSIBLE to nick a banana from Sainsbury's? Obviously not. Sainsbury's not Fort Knox, and even now bananas will be stolen. But it's a way to reduce, however slightly, its likelihood.All that's required of us is to have the presence of mind of keeping the receipt, whose paper and printing costs are negligible to both our wallets AND the environment, and then to scan it on a reader. Appreciate it's an inconvenience, but it's not exactly a difficult task to accomplish.
