Road surface Staveley Road

Has anyone else notice how bad the road surface is on Staveley Road outside Chiswick School ? Without any evidence, it seems to have badly deteriorated since the south Chiswick restrictions. Judging by the size and placement of the damage road surface, by eye they seem to fit the wheel base of the E3 bus. As the road is so clear during the restriction times , are the E3 buses travelling faster ? Which means they brake harder and accelerate harder, which goes with the surface damage, before the Bus Stop, after the bus stop and two places by the lights with the A316 (travelling from Burlington Lane to the A316.There’s also a very bad bit of road surface where the pupils cross the road to get to the E3 bus stop on the other side of the road.

I cycle on this road fairly regularly and can't say I have noticed a particular deterioration. It is however nice and wide so where the surface is uneven you can dodge around it.While vehicle speeds may have risen a bit since the restrictions, it had already been a problem. The road was generally free flowing even at rush hour which is why so many people used it.I'll take a closer look later in the week and report back if I think I need to revise this view.

Try riding over the craters by the school entrance. Or ride in the middle of the E3 tyre tracks you’ll be ok. But ride in the tyre tracks you’ll need suspension on you front fork’s.In a car you won’t probably notice the difference until it breaks up even more

Apparently EVs are likely to cause twice as much damage to road surfaces than a conventional equivalent. A fully loaded Tesla weighs in at two and half tons or there abouts with worries some car parks could collapse under the weight.

That is heavy for a car, mind you, my old Morris Traveler  weighed 1 ton, with everything that wasn’t bolted down removed while being weighed for the very old C license.But the Coaches are parking down there again lately. Hounslow never took the old coach stop sign down, so maybe they are letting them park there again.

I did have a good look in the last few days at the surface. From the point of view of a cyclist it is generally good but there are a couple of spots where there is significant deterioration.These are by the lights on the eastern end and directly in front of the school. Rather than speed it looks like the surface is unable to cope with buses and coaches static for a long period.

Where you found “significant deterioration” is in parts of the road where heavy vehicles brake and accelerate, as in, before the Bus stop and after, by the school entrance and the A316 traffic lights. In most of the places where the road surface is bad, their is no place to park a heavy vehicle As there are zig zag markings on the road to stop anyone parking near a school entrance.This hasn't just started to happened it’s been slowly deteriorating since the restrictions have been in place.I have also been unfortunate enough to put one front wheel down a the broken surface and to have the steering rip out of my hands, a good job I was travelling slowly at the time so it was easy to recover from the situation. But ended up with my tracking being pulled out of line.
