Cant stand farage but dont knock him. Has a following which polsters gave reform UK a 3-4 percent rise when farage joined. We had to go through the politically exposed person process with Amazon because my wife shares the same name as a PEP (the wife of a former PM).  Completed the process but our business accounts were cancelled a month later.  Took a couple of years to unpick.Farage is a PEP because he is a well known public and political figure which triggers the due diligence.  If the banks find anything difficult, for instance financial relationships with sanctioned regimes like Russia or relationships with people who have relationships with Russia, even if he is just in a bit of a grey area (probably legal but a bit murky), it is easier to just sever the relationship than take the risk.

Nigel Farage says he has no financial dealings with Russia, and the banks do not contradict him. They have blocked him purely for his political views, which just happen to coincide with the red wall, or if you like, the 52 percent.

Farage probably doesn't have any direction financial dealings with Russia - and even the public indirect ones via RT are nothing too bad.However, being a PEP means you have to prove a negative - that you don't have anything potentially difficult in your personal or business life.You have to be cleaner than clean, and in Farage's case he has plenty of links to people who are potentially dodgy - not just from Leave.EU's links to Russia, but also his links to the far right in the USA - people like Bannon, Alex Jones and Trump.It isn't his politics that are a problem but his association with the global crooks and kleptocrats who make up the far right populist / nationalist movements.Most / all of these allegations won't make it to criminal courts, but for the PEP regime they can still be red flags which makes financial institutions adopt a better safe than sorry approach.

He may indeed have no (financial) dealings with Russia, but is a bank obliged to explain why they no longer wish to provide him with an account facility?

I agree that anyone who has a bank account closed on them is entitled to an explanation - I'm not in a position to judge whether the explanation Nigel Farage received was sufficient or not, and I suspect that you aren't either, even though you might be satisfied in your own mind that it wasn't sufficient.Why doesn't Nigel name and shame?

Never mind business, it's not possible to live nowadays without a bank account. It was revealed on GB News yesterday that 7 other banks refused to accept his custom, so there could be a coordinated effort to ruin him, and possibly for his political views, which have considerable public support. This is a serious Human Rights issue in any event..

Could be... possibly for his views... all speculation of course, no real substance to the allegations.By the way, the largest 9 personal account providers in the UK are legally required to offer basic bank accounts (unless there is evidence of illegality, or the account hasn't been used for 2 years in which case they can close an already existing account).Business accounts obviously don't come under the category of basic bank account.

Farage is an entertaining and plausible speaker.  I first heard him speak at a West London UKIP meeting, where he brushed aside the fruitcakes.  No doubt that transfers well to TV. However he has failed to be elected to the UK Parliament seven times. The voters appreciate entertainers but they know that deep down Farage is not a serious politician i.e. one who might have answers to serious problems. He knows what he's against but has no realistic solutions to our political problems.  I think voters will be even more careful after the Johnson experience.

Nigel Farage defined as "Best News Presenter"?Surely there must be another Nigel Farage out there.There's no other explanation, because otherwise I struggle to see how the famous Nigel Farage, the one who, among many other things:- Campaigned to leave the EU while milking Brussels's tit for 21 years- Led Brexit, only to resign as UKIP leader after the Brexit vote, i.e. when the going was actually getting tough- Pushed for a hard Brexit while getting his sons German passports- Campaigned on a heap of racist lies, including a forthcoming Turkish EU membership- Joined up on the anti-Soros malarkey in company with fine minds like Orban and the US far-right- Is a climate change denier- Has parroted Putin's propaganda over the war in Ukraine (i.e. that it was a provocation by Nato)and much else, surely that Nigel Farage would be utterly discredited, ridiculed and not allowed to present even the local parish news bulletin, let alone something on the telly?

If you become an MEP you do make loads of money.  The salary is nothing out of the ordinary it is related to the salary of an MP in your own country. They don't receive expenses, they get an allowance which is massive and unaccountable, you don't need to justify it. This allowance is easy to increase. Those that are known to have taken more than the allowance are allowed to carry on without any penalty the EU just turn a blind eye.  The EU consider it money well spent because it ensures loyalty.

A while ago I applied to Barclays for a bank account for a small charity.Among the directors were a Nobel Prize Winner, a minor member of the British Royal Family, a former president of Ireland, also United Nations Commissioner for Human Rights,  a Professor of  Paediatrics,  and other luminaries.The reply from Barclays was short and to the point....I treasure a copy of their letter."We have considered your application carefully but regret to advise it does not meet the Bank's requirements."

Politics aside, at least he is articulate, polite and speaks with clarity. Unlike some on BBC and CH4. Why does CH 4 employ slurring, inarticulate reporters and readers. Some of the accents are just so bad and Paul McNamara is just embarrassing as he slurs his way through a piece. I guess it’s PC to employ inarticulate people.
