A couple of points. The police are understaffed and underfunded so until that changes they will have to prioritise, and the scene you describe, Chris, will likely be way down the list. As for drugs in general this should be a matter of public health rather than law enforcement. Countries that have moved towards a harm reduction approach are having much better results in terms of fewer deaths, better rehabilitation, no increase in drug use and lower costs to society. Our present government is charging off in the opposite direction persisting with the failed ‘war on drugs’ approach in the belief that this will appeal to their core supporters though, as with views on immigration, they are almost certainly behind the curve of public opinion. Gangs love the war on drugs of course. It’s a major source of income.
