Staveley Road filter

Check out this beauty. 22,000 views on Twitter so it would be rude not to share it here.
5,000 drivers used this road every day to avoid driving on six lane motorway just 500m away that was purpose built just for them at great expense to the taxpayer and the community of Chiswick. Now the road is for walking and cycling. Lovely stuff.

Boring pedants. Six lanes = motorway as far as I am concerned, that’s what I am calling it and I am very pleased that drivers are now using the stretch of it between Hogarth roundabout and Sutton Court Rd instead of unsuitable residential streets which are now much more pleasant and safe for people.

Yesterday an honest workman arrived to fix something here - he had no idea about the blxxdy cameras  or road closures -  just wanted to do a good job ..he has been fined . Paul - you may think it's great to have no access and having to travel miles to get to Staveley by car or by bus - or by walking...  I'm happy you are able to cycle - not everyone can.

Don’t be silly. Most motorists just blindly follow their sat navs and haven’t got a clue what road they’re driving on or how many no motor vehicles except permit holders signs they’ve passed on the way. That’s why these physical filters are so good. They’re idiot proof.

"5,000 drivers used this road every day to avoid driving on six lane motorway just 500m away"He's bloody right though - the through traffic should stick to the main roads and not rat run through a residential neighbourhood.These extra vehicles would bring noise, air pollution, congestion and increased risk of injury and death to local residents - impacting the very young and the old most.You'd have to be an incredibly entitled person to want to divert thousands of cars per day off a trunk road / motorway and through a neighbourhood solely for your own selfish convenience.

Simply though, ANPR would allow local residents and essential services like carers unrestricted access while allowing those rat running to be penalised.

It's been one of the lessons learned from the Great Chiswick Road Wars. Lots of motorists cannot see road signs. We have empirical evidence so it's not as if I have to channel the minds of drivers.

Well Ed. That's well put and right. Trouble is that traffic with modern satnav will always try and find the quickest route. It's blind to neighbourhoods. It just sees routes.Just because it's the quickest didn't mean it's the right way.

For the people who are complaining that cyclists are selfish. No they do not have blue badges.  Hounslow Council could buy a new tow truck and have it paid for in a fortnight just from selfish entitled drivers abusing these two disabled parking spaces alone.

ANPR works well for the residents of Green Dragon Lane and the roads off London Road in Isleworth, Unfettered access for residents and carers, fines for those who ignore the signs. If those monies are used to support the Freedom Pass so much the better.

Just to be pedantic, I think it's wrong to call Richard a pedant.Paul knows it's not literally a motorway...it's quite clear he was talking figuratively.Richard knows Paul knows it's not a motorway.And we all know that Richard knows that Paul knows it's not a motorway.But Richard was trying to convince us that he didn't realize that Paul was being figurative, in order to pick a fight. I don't think that's pedantry. I don't know what it's called, but it needs a name.

Love that Hans.Officials and traffic engineers come from far and wide for guided tours of these schemes in Walthamstow. We may see the same thing happen in Chiswick! I went on a tour with a Chiswick Conservative Councillor and we were told comical anecdotes about the negative reactions of people when the schemes went in and how incongruous they were with the positive reality of the present. Perhaps one day I will find myself giving similar tours and featuring that same Councillor in the anecdote about this filter, reminiscing about how he wore an anarchist mask in his vigil to protect the road and the rights of 5,000 drivers to use it every day as a high speed rat run!
