Average Speed Camera Calibration

Does anyone know if these cameras need to be calibrated regularly to be legally enforceable? My wife has received a “Notice of Intended Prosecution” and the calibration certificate is signed and dated May 2016. Does this invalidate it?

I don't know but my brother-in-law once challenged a speeding fine by requesting the last calibration date, and they dropped the case.

Government guidance seems to suggest that they should be calibrated annually. Unless the camera has been calibrated correctly, she may not know if she was speeding.  It would seem reasonable to be sure that this equipment is maintained adequately if measurements are used to impose fines on people.

Almost every driver breaks the law multiple times every time they get behind the wheel so yes it is unsurprising that they look for technical loopholes to avoid justice.

c. 90% of drivers break the 20mph speed limit. Source: Dft.If we can have speed limiters in e-bikes and eScooters then it’s time to put them on cars. They can be geofenced too. We can’t trust drivers to obey the law.

well I haven't seen much evidence of speed limiters on e-scooters and bikes. Saw one such bike - with big fat tyres like a motorbike - doing a good 40mph along the pavement the other day.

This sort of bike is illegal, and surely it supports the argument that scooters and e-bikes should be speed limited?  And if you accept that scooters should be speed limited, there can be no argument not also to apply this technology to cars

Paul: 90% of drivers...break the lawAnd of course you as a cyclist have never broken the law, and have never seen any other cyclist breaking the law by, for example, running red lights, riding on the pavement etc.The reality of speed limits and the inconsistencies of speed cameras and car speedometers is that typically you would only get a penalty for speeding in a 20 mph limit if you were doing 23-24 mph.

More than whinge incessantly, as is your wont, about the misdemeanours of car drivers, why not work constructively to get all traffic regulations enforced for all road users by writing to your local councillors and your metropolitan police neighbourhood team.  Guess it's easier to whing rather than actually do something constructive.
