British Airways vouchers

I have a voucher as a result of the pandemic which is due to expire in September.I will not be able to use it by then but is very likely I could by the year end.I have been rejected from getting a refund as BA say the flight went ahead.Does anyone know a way to get it extended or get the cash back?I know someone took them to court and won but this was for an Avios booking which is somehow diffrent to my booking.

Good luck Adrian. BA - a really dreadful airline  - an old fleet, frequently delays and cancel flights with very little notice.

Is it transferable for a nominal fee? If so, why not sell it, cut your losses and travel with a proper airline.

Best bet book a fun weekend away, use the voucher. We flew BA in March and have to be fair it was a very good experience, excellent cabin crew and the food has improved massively

I'm in a similar position, Adrian. They pocketed £352 of my money, and so far, all efforts to retrieve it have come to nought.

Just contacted them on air miles, have enough to go to Sydney 1st class, for the weekend, and might have to if they expire. Built up from a credit card. Nectar will be their destination if I can’t use them before they expire.

Russell, just to be clear are you saying you can convert your air miles to Nectar Points?Great if you can but I guess that won't apply to vouchers or could it?

Can you see if you can find a flight before the voucher expires that you are then able to cancel or amend (sometimes a nominal fee applies. That way you could perhaps be issued a new voucher or amend your flight dates closer to the Sept deadline.

Wouldn’t it be a good thing if BA offered some decent advice rather the ripping people off at every opportunity? A dreadful service, a dreadful employer and an ancient fleet.If they purport to be the national carrier then they do reflect the current government in many ways but one always hopes for something better.

"ancient fleet" Twice you have mentioned that That is not the case The average age of its fleet on a quick look is 13 years which is the average for most airlines where the average lifespan of a plane in service is 25years.All airlines are ordering and waiting for new planes. They dont built,test and delivere overnight  Maybe you could share yours insider info. A plane that is built and purchased with a life span of 25 years and costing the best part of $300 million does not get scrapped or sold on after say 5 years. Its has taken new orders,has orders in place and has many orders that have been pushed back and delayed and not down to BA Dont forget some airlines have only expanded big time over the last ten years so fleet will look more upto date but will in time full into place with most airlines fleet and operations

Flew out with BA last Thursday, and came back today. Absolutely happy with the service, in fact they went out of their way to resolve a seating issue that was my mistake.We even had a "go around" on the way out ... first time ever.

I flew out with them last Thursday- two hour delay after our initial flight was cancelled. Managed to get another flight with no assistance from BA at all. A three hour delay a few months ago. I think some of the staff try hard but BA is nothing like it ses to be.

Yes I did Kieran but they responded by saying the flight I booked during the pandemic actual took off so no refund of cash just a voucher.We were due to fly in Spring 2020 to Italy. At the time I was offered cash or voucher. Because I thought things would be back to normal fairly soon I opted for a voucher. My mistake!The thing is why, when we were offered cash back or voucher unconditionally, is it they now say because the flight took off we can't have a refund or extension? I am hoping come Sept 30th when thousands of vouchers expire there will be such a stink BA will make a further extension. Don't bet the house on it though!

A similar thing happened to me about 18 months ago and I was advised to book a flight with my voucher and cancel it and then they would cancel the booking and refund me with another voucher which was extended . So I did this and it worked may be worth checking with BA and asking the question.

That’s annoying.  I think a lot of companies work on the “Just say no” policy.  They then step back and see how loud the noise gets.

I have just had an e-mail from BA extending the expiry date  to Sept 2024!That's an extra year which will no doubt apply to everyone with vouchers.

I've just managed to use my voucher to book a return flight to Crete in June, covering over half the cost of the flight, but I'll be keeping my fingers crossed till I'm sipping my G&T at 30,000 feet over France.

Adrian, just read an airline newsletter BA are extending voucher scheme by another year until September 2024 so hopefully that gives you enough time to use yours, happy days ha! You may have already received an email if not one should follow shortly.
