It's an abomination. The French are rioting in the street over trivialities like having to work for an extra street yet we let this pass without any violence.Join me this morning outside the branch for a protest.Actually it will be more inside the branch where I will be picking up my rouleau de petit-déjeuner à la saucisse as part of my calorie controlled diet.

Excellent news.  Might I suggest that they discreetly try to tempt the beloved Jean-Michel away from Waitrose to join their team?  I think he might be interested as he seems to have lost some of his joie de vivre since being switched from the axed fish counter to the self-service till area.  And accent-wise he would be a much better role model than René Artois.

Just seen your post about the beloved Jean-Michel, Alastair. He is indeed a star at Waitrose. Unfortunately I only understand about 50% of what he says! This may be down to the fact I'm rather hard of hearing these days. His accent is so impenetrably Gallic that sometimes it seems like self-parody.

50% Robert?  Formidable!  I can only get half of that on a quiet Waitrose morning :-( but it’s all in the music)I have heard that when speaking French J-M is eloquent even poétique!

If Waitrose would turn down the volume on the self-service till voices that screech in your ear when you are brave enough to use one, the noise level in the area would instantly reach a level that was bearable. And you'd be able to hear staff speaking at a normal level rather than having to outshout the in-house competition.

There was I recall a prior Chiswick W4.com April 1st posting at the time just before the London Olympics in the Summer being held, when the spoof was that the full Afghanistan Olympic team would all be staying in Chiswick. At that time, the conflicts with the Taliban and ISIS were in full flow. I recall the indignant postings on the Forum were growing by the hour until it was admitted it was an April 1st joke!

Then there was the one (in 2009) about Hounslow Council hiring Foxtons to re-value all the properties in the borough so that they could increase council tax.(Must confess, I fell for that one for a few minutes.)

The former MP for the area, Ann Keen, told people that she got a flood of complaints about a report on this site on 1 April that a helipad was to be opened on Turnham Green. The company that was going to be operating it was called 'Choppers on the Block'.

One reader of the CH Friends newsletter got very cross when we published in a 1 April edition a picture of the Resplendent Quetzel (national bird of Costa Rica), saying that it was an "infrequent" visitor to the Gardens....

One year on AFD I posted that the brentford and chiswick times local newspaper had been folded up.Several posters cried.I then follow up with a picture of the newspaper duly hand folded. It was a simple yet effective foil.
