Chiswick place names abroad !

So there's a Chiswick House School in Malta.There's a Chiswick suburb in Sydney, Australia Oldies following the McTavish Clan thread years ago might recall mention of a Chiswick House whaling Station in Canada.Brentford next door has links and football supporters in Brentford, South Dakota, USA.Why would Chiswick be the slightest bit interested when there's so much to worry about locally!

New England has hundreds of places with 'English' names. I worked in Manchester New Hampshire for two years. We had a support office in Acton Massachusetts but one of the busiest counties was Middlesex.

In Australia they call bed sheets and linen 'Manchester' because most of the cotton and textiles came from the mills near Manchester. Very odd seeing signs in department stores saying Manchester.Not Chiswick I know but ...

Yes. I was waiting for a bus ( to Paddington!) near the harbour in Sydney when a bus with the destination "Chiswick" came along. Just for a split second ithought " here's my bus"

Walking along the Napier coastline (North Island, NZ) after a cricket international between NZ & England I came upon Pickwicks Wine Bar, bringing back fond memories of its namesake, that Den of Iniquity in Devonshire road, now sadly gone.

Most people with the Sir name Chiswick live in USA.  The place name Chiswick was taken from the old English Ceswican meaning cheese farm but was actually a cheese fair thought to be held near Dukes Meadows.Info from Google.

There was a Mary Ann Chiswick born in Brentford in 1846, a John Chiswick got married there in 1849 and a Sarah Chiswick died there in 1853. Otherwise the surname seems to be in use in areas well away from W4.

Is Chiswick twinned with anywhere? Brentford isn't,but it does have a suicide pact with Egremont.

I believe Hounslow is variously twinned with Issy-les-Moulineaux in France, Ramallah in Palestine, Lahore in Pakistan and Leningradsky in Russia.  Take your pick.

The Russian twinning is interesting but maybe it has been discontinued. Haven't heard of any activity except knowing that that Gillette Company moved from Brentford to Poland .. but also has a big plant (!) in St Petersburg.BUT THERE IS A SETTLEMENT CALLED CHISWICK  IN ONTARIO, CANADA ..check Google
