Dishonest business practice.

"It's seems like everyone is out to scam. 10 days ago I had a letter from SSE, part of the O.V.O. family offering a £50 energy credit if I had a Smart Meter installed. I booked the meter but had to change to S.S.E. O.V.O. I have just been informed by John from S.S.E. O.V.O. that the agent from S.S.E. had tricked me into signing up to S.S.E. O.V.O. and since signing up have been told that I don't qualify for a Smart Meter or £50 credit. John has promised to rectify the matter.I have been on the phone to SSE and OVO from 9.30 this morning until now ( 3.00 pm) today. I have been waiting up to 30 minutes to get connected and have been cut off 3 times by Ryan then Steff then another woman."

To be cut of from so many people you must have been rude or something. As to smart meter,everyone qualifies for a mart meter. And some do offer some £s for having one. What you have not said is if the person came out to install and could not install one for various reasons thus you cant have one and thus you dont quelify for £s. Not everyone can have a smart meter. Sometimes down to the wiring to your exising meter. Was you on SSE before ? SSE is now OVO and not everyone has had the billing swapped from SSE to OVO Im not sure you was duped. I thik you went with the samrt meter and for some reason they cant give you one so you dont qualify for the money T&Cs

I haven't been rude to anyone. I was with SSE and was sent a letter by them to have a smart meter and have £50 credit. I arranged for the smart meter and was told that to get it and the £50 credit I had to change from SSE to SSE OVO which is the same family. I have now been told by John at SSE OVO that the agent had tricked me into changing to SSE OVO and he will chase the matter up. SSE will have recordings of the conversation that I had with the trickster. It appears he was just out for commission to get me to change. I still have the letter from him offering the £50 credit.

"To be cut off from so many people you must have been rude or something."Given the number of times I have been cut off in mid-call by some utility or similar, often after being asked if I minded being put on hold for a short while, when the conversation had been perfectly amicable up to that point, I don't agree. I have had my billing swapped from SSE to Ovo without being asked if I minded, and I find Ovo far less amenable as a supplier than SSE used to be, while their bills seem to require a degree in maths to fathom them out.

SSE ans SSE (WHATEVER) is now OVO and eveyone on SSE is automatically switched to OVO at any time. Im with SSE but ive now been switched to OVO,nothing changes. In theory,SSE does not exist just that not everyone has been switched over by name. IF your back with as you say SSE,then at any time your become OVO anyway. SSE OVO does not exist,just SSE or OVO which will all become OVO I dont see where comission comes when you just swapping names. You sure you are out of contract and you have signed up for another contract. Tht could be where the issue lies. I stand by the smart meter issue. If you cant get one you dont qualify for the £50. Everyone is entitled to a smart meter if your setup allows one to be installed

I have no doubt about being cut off many times.  This frequently happens with utilities.  Their (and banks) response to "my script does not give me an answer to this question" is often to drop the call.And I recommend that you all check your bills very carefully. I have identified mistakes - often running into the thousands of pounds - on mine with at least four different electricity suppliers (and curiously enough - always over charging- never an error in my favour).The only supplier I have come across with good customer service is Octopus.

My thinking was having the phone put down on you. Getting dropped is another issue that happens with many when hanging on in a line or long period of timeOK As you have posted many times about your energy supplier and issues and other issues with switching companies ive had a quick look back at your last SSE post It tells me you signed for a 24 month contract with SSE which runs out in JAN 2023. 29th if being precise is correct on your comments. Its pretty obvious to me that you are with SSE. You have phoned as your contract is coming to its end ??? They have not offered you the meter and £50. What they have done is put you on a new 24 month contract. That is where the ? comes in. Did you sign up for another contract or did you sign up thinking your getting £50 ? Clearly you dont qualify for £50 because they cant fit one. No commision is made from that,but comission could be made for you signing up for another 24 months,and the meter is an additional offer. The idea bout SSE and OVO and switching back is not the case. You sure this guy is not saying or some confusion over contract reneved and becasue of that your now OVO under a new contract and he has reversed that contract. What happened with your civil court case in progress last time around ?

Well that was quickI've just had a quick chat with OVO about smart meters as they came a month ago to install one but could not due to the type of wiring to the existing LED meter. I asked if they offer any money for having a smart meter as I was not offered anything to have one.What they said is that depending on your current bills they do tell customers that with a smart meter you can save up to £50 or in some cases £100 using the smart meter to cut on usage against current usage. They dont offer anything in return for having one installed

RightLast post on thisThey do offer £50 but when you "join" OVO. When you join,which is why this was not mentioned over chat as i am a SSE customer now OVOYou were on SSE which is OVO so you do not qualify FOR £50 as you not a new customer. In reality you are a OVO customer since last year.

I wasn't automatically switched. I was only switched after I was offered the £50 credit which after I was switched was told by John from OVO that I was tricked by the SSE rep.

I was cut off 3 times after waiting to be put through to someone else. The last time was after waiting 30 minutes.

Regarding the last point you make. I dropped the civil case which was a wise move because both companies, Look After My Bills and Utility Point went bust shortly afterwards. I received a total of £450 compensation for the months of agro that I had. I didn't phone SSE because my SSE contract was coming to an end but because SSE invited me to have a smart meter put in and because of the offer of £50 credit. John from OVO is investigating the matter and will be able to access the discussion that myself and the trickster at SSE had.

The letter that I received from SSE states "As a thank you, we'll credit your account with £50 if you upgrade to a smart meter now."

If that is the case why would SSE who knows I was with SSE a £50 incentive knowing I was not going to get it.
