John, lovely footage. It captures nearly 175 years of bridge building across the Thames, with the original Barnes bridge opening in 1849. So we’re seeing the oldest and newest bridges downstream of Richmond.

Shouldn't it be a bit higher?"The walkway was designed to be 4.9m AOD (Above Ordnance Datum) at its lowest point under Barnes Bridge.  The highest tide this year at Barnes Bridge is predicted to be 4.58m AOD.The walkway might be under water on occasions, but that's true of other parts of the Thames Path, e.g. the riverside path at Strand on the Green.  If they'd built it higher, wouldn't there would be headroom problems under the railway bridge?

Just in case I have confused people, I mean the two boathouses on the Hammersmith side of the railway bridge. I went there on the opening day and the path was blocked meaning I had to use the road...

It would be nice to think that the new footpath to the bridge will continue along the riverside and not dive into the bushes to go behind the boathouses.PS Yes, the Diamond Geezer blog has many things of interest to interested Londoners!

The new footbridge is open including the repositioned path leading to the road ( Promenade Rd). What hasn't re-opened is the short path along the river between the bridge (both) and the boathouses. Fencing still up on Sunday. Still periphery work to finish.

The hardstanding in front of the boathouses isn't part of the Thames Path. It's private land that the public are permitted to cross.

Don't know if I am missing something here, the footbridge across the Thames looks very useful.But the long footage of footbridge just going around the side of the Thames bank southside looks both pointless and possibly spoiling the view for anybody from that southside bank of Thames. So that bit also waste of money.

I walked over the new bridge this afternoon. I rather like it.  I do hope they are going to do something about the path leading to the bridge on the downriver side.  It would be difficult for anyone in a wheelchair to navigate at the moment.  It would be a shame if it was spoilt for a ha'p'worth of tar.

Robin, The land is owned by London Borough of Hounslow and is leased to the two clubs; the lower section of the slipway is PLA. The Thames path appears on numerous maps and is well signposted as crossing that section of the LBH land. Can you clarify the permitted access you refer to, is it part of the lease agreement? Your use of private land is confusing me.

The foreshore owned by PLA is between high and low water.  High tides do cover the whole of the slipway in front of the boathouses.  The clubs pay a rent to PLA for use of the slipway.

RL. It may be because the new footbridge has to go round Dukes hollow making it longer.
