You went after Christmas, before re-stocking. Re closing-down: it is up in the air at the moment. M&S say that they want to redevelop the King Street site as "student accommodation" of 10 or 12 storeys (v tall!), leaving the ground as a food store, no clothing except as a collection point. They put forward rather a sketchy design online, which obscured some key sticking points. The local amenity society, the Hammersmith Society, has objected to the height and the density of the proposals, particularly as the building would cast a long shadow over King Street and Lyric Square, both to the north. As you probably know M&S are trying to exploit their freehold sites with property developments, reducing the overall number and extent of the stores.
