Never had it so bad? Disagree. There have always been the very poor, people living on the streets etc. In relation to my own circumstances, when I was first struggling to get a mortgage (Abbey National as it then was turned me down despite a good deposit and steady income as 'you're a girl, you'll want to buy pretty things') so had to spend a lot of time and effort to find a buiding soc who would lend to a single woman, then rates were 15%, I know for a fact I was paid some 20% kess than male employees doing jobs with less responsibity. Depends who you are talking about.
