Fulham SW6 note for W4 Drivers

I thought I should forward my traffic experience today:  Needing to reach the A3 [in a smart suit] and with the Mortlake option looking rather flooded [water mains] I tried to use Wandsworth Bridge Road southbound.     A new SW6 restriction applies to drivers travelling north in SW6 on the Kings Road from the Fulham Palace Road / Putney Bridge station area.   Essentially car travel to W-W Bridge is barred for non-local traffic.   At present no fines, just ANPR warnings....Go to Fulham SW6.com for Map and full details.    Roads such as Linver Road and Cristowe Road off the KIngs Rd. cannot now access Wandsworth Bridge Road.   The objective is to reduce Hammersmith traffic heading South-Eastwards.....through Wandsworth.

The sooner they get Hammersmith Bridge fully operational again the better.

This is one of the first clean air trials in the borough of Hammersmith and Fulham. They are planning to extend them across the borough over the next 18 months. Residents will be able to drive in any street but out of borough drivers will have to stick to main roads.

Indeed. And where Fulham leads watch Wandsworth follow.As for Hammersmith Bridge ... nobody will ever drive a car across it again. Never.

So if this scheme was applied in W4 it would allow for example all Hounslow residents to access the GP restrictions. It would be useful in west Chiswick which is overwhelmed most evenings by through traffic trying to reach the A4 and Chiswick roundabout. I think many would be happy with that.With the appalling queues and pollution on the A316 and Hogarth roundabout often overwhelmed, Paul's obsession with keeping Hammersmith bridge closed is perverse. Especially when as now roadworks impact the capacity of the few remaining routes across the river. Any other bridges we should close, who needs them after all. Or is it just nice ones to walk across?

"Paul's obsession with keeping Hammersmith bridge closed is perverse."Well it might be if I had one. But I don't. I'm not campaigning to keep Hammersmith Bridge closed to cars. I'm just being realistic. Hammersmith Bridge will never be open to cars. That's just how it is. There isn't ever going to be enough money or a solution to fix the situation. It's fantasy to think otherwise and shooting the messenger won't alter the facts.

Fair enough. There is money available its a question of priorities. London already has too few bridges. The ongoing closure of Hammersmith bridge merely overloads other routes.The H&F clean air schemes would be welcome in W4, addressing the issues of created restricted communities in certain areas by allowing broad access to all borough residents while removing genuine through traffic. They also have consulted extensively with residents. Will LBH look and learn?

the cretinous mayor you can thank. that man is so negative and destructive for London i am still scratching my head as to why any free thinking persons would vote that dwarf back in as mayor. it will almost be too expensive and impossible to drive in London as what was once a great city.

No difference between LBHF and Hounslow in terms of a section of residents complaining about anything that restricts driving.  Sorry for a link to The Sun but they are claiming that living in Fulham is like "North Korea".  So Chiswick and Fulham are both like North Korea according to some...https://www.thesun.co.uk/motors/18618595/traffic-cameras-north-korea-wandsworth-london-ltn/

Interesting distractions but not really the point, I seem to remember some posters telling us that the H&F approach of signle database covering all residents couldnt possibly work, not even for all of GP let alone all of LBH. And H&F seem to have engaged with all residents directly. Imagine. Not just on a commonplace or other useless platform either.

My route to my nephew in Tooting on Sunday takes me down the Fulham Palace Rd, over Putney Bridge then sharp left to Wandsworth, then south to Tooting. Am I right in thinking that I can manage this without being fined for daring to leave my own part of London on a day when there is no public transport?Any advice appreciated!

Exactly the same type of people are opposing the CANs in Hammersmith as oppose LTNs (although only new ones; old ones are totally fine) in Chiswick. And they are screaming that they haven't been consulted. Being consulted to these people means getting what they want. The next Council meeting is going to be very lively indeed.

I'm assuming at the relevant places there are 'No Motor Vehicles Except for...' signs, together with some helpful 'No through route to....'  The explanations on the LBHF websites seem only to mention the installation of cameras with no mention of signs. At a glance, some of the restrictions seem to be half way down roads and in the middle of estates, by which time it's not easy to take an alternative route.

I don't understand the logic in stopping people from driving from one part of London to another. Surely if they want to discourage car use, it should be short journeys that they target.
