Where in Chiswick can we give used batteries - I don't know if this has been said before -

All supermarkets and other chain retailers of batteries or battery powered items are required to have battery recycling boxes.

HelenHave a look at this website and put your postcode in and it will probably remind you of all the places you could have bought batteries near you who are registered to collect batteries - so long as it is up to date! Sometimes the collection containers aren't very obvious.http://www.recyclenow.com/We are asked not to put batteries or any items containing batteries in our household waste collections as they can cause fires in the collection vehicles and waste transfer stations when jolted around. Batteries can just get hot in a pocket as happened to me when I put them there temporarily to carry them downstairs when my hands were full and then forgot to remove them before going for a walk :(

As you enter Chiswick library a table and chair lie to your left, alongside the window. The table contains a box accepting expired batteries.

In the US Lithium and Lithium Ion batteries have to have the terminals taped (sellotape will do) to stop them from rubbing against each other. Probably a good idea to do that here too.
Thanks for the heads-up on this, Philippa; invaluable advice.

https://resource.co/article/two-fires-day-electrical-waste-prompts-call-new-weee-collection-servicesJust a reminder of the care that needs to be taken! Also mark up the cables for your electrical and electronic items so that any Spring clear out and recycling of lost and unattached bits and pieces does not cause you grief and an awful lot of time trying to replace what may be irreplaceable. I gave away all my dead batteries, free of charge.

Ha haAnd here's why you should make careful choices of the clothes you buy - buying what you really like and then repairing them or getting them repaired or altering as required. Because of fast fashion an awful lot of what we take to the charity shops or to be recycled is not considered saleable :( https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bB3kuuBPVys
