Letter from TFL about A4 closures - clarity please!

We received a letter today through letterbox. Could someone clarify for me whether there's a typo in the letter?In the section about 'A4 Cedars Road closed eastbound between M4 jn 2 and SCR' (9-12 Dec) it says:'No access to SCR northbound from A4 Cedars' (so I assume this means you can't turn left off the A4 on to SCR)'No access to A4 Cedars from SCR northbound and Sutton Lane North'By 'northbound' I assume they mean driving north out of Grove Park, but as A4 westbound is open, this doesn't make sense. Surely they mean no access to A4 from SCR SOUTHBOUND i.e. you can't get on to the A4 eastbound from the northside. Or is the whole junction closed and we'll be trapped in Grove Park?? Surely if the A4 westbound lane is open, why can't we turn left out of Grove Park on to the A4 from SCR?? Have I misunderstood the letter?

I think you are right and TfL has got confused. You should still be able to access the westbound A4 and cross over to the  north of Chiswick either travelling west on the A4 or straight across SCR.

I understand the restrictions are from 22:00 to 05:00? That right?You're right though, I read it and was confused as to which bit they were talking about.A diagram always helps.

It looks like there are 2 separate projects. Currently the mobile signs are for the overnight work. WESTBOUND closure is overnight for 4 nights Mon-Thurs.EASTBOUND closure is the whole weekend from Fri-Mon. Expect traffic chaos next weekend as everyone will presumably be directed off the M4 eastbound via Chiswick Roundabout along the High Road, then back on to A4 either at Dukes Avenue or Chiswick Lane. Then go round Hogarth roundabout and all the way back if you want to get into Grove Park....

Yes that seems to be correct. There is an article in today's Chiswick newsletter which sets it out a bit more clearly but still leaves some unanswered questions such as will people be able to cross the A4 at night. If the answer is no then the original question asked is correct and it will be impossible to get into Grove Park without access at night, unless you have an exemption, without getting a fine.The communication on this has been terrible. To provide what may have been a misleading answer to the original post I looked at TfL's page on the Cromwell Road works naively thinking the information would be there.

Unfortunately the w4.com front page article doesn't help. It  reads:"It is understood that this will require Sutton Court Road to be closed from 10am to 5pm each night while the work is taking place."I assume this is a mistake and it should read "10PM to 5 AM"?Hopefully it will be corrected before even more confusion takes hold!

All should become clearer tonight when the work is scheduled to begin at 10pm.The ambiguity may be due to confusion as to how this will fit in with the bigger closure of the A4/M4 this weekend. Obviously if they can do the resurfacing work on SCR then there will be less impact.However, the bus stops are being closed in both directions north of SCR so that suggests that the road is completely closed but buses will divert up the A4 and Chiswick Lane. Until the weekend you should be able to access Grove Park from the north and cutting back to SCR by travelling back along the A4. At the weekend, that option doesn't appear to be open so the only access point that you won't be fined at is the one near Kew Bridge (even though technically access is restricted there).

So people will be able to access Grove Park from the A316 during the times of the works.

TFL is as useful as a chocolate teapot;                another example: the dearth of information concerning the closure of Chiswick Station because of repair work taking place on Barnes Bridge.

That could be because Chiswick Station is the responsibility of Network Rail and the trains are operated by South Western Railway. Your general point is correct though, all organisations working on our transport infrastructure seem to think keeping people uptodate is not that important.

Can anyone update on what actually has happened at the Sutton Court Road junction? Did the works commence last night and what roads were closed?

The E3 seems to be running as normal. I didn't travel on it in the evening but there is no diversion reported on the TfL web site.
