Look both ways

As a pedestrian I now know that the world has gone completely mad when asked to do this while dangerously attempting to cross the road on King Street.  My eyes would have to be where my ears are.Dangerous, confusing and bonkers!

I now look both ways when leaving shops to avoid any collision with cyclists and scooters still using the pavement!

Small children scooting fast on pavements ahead of parent/carer not looking where they are going but LOOKING BACKWARDS are a huge danger to pedestrians unable to jump swiftly out of the way let alone to themselves!

We were taught both at home snd at school how to cross roads and other toad safety.  Is this no longer happening?There is also info for pedestrians in the Highway Code so we can brush up on it:https://www.gov.uk/guidance/the-highway-code/rules-for-pedestrians-1-to-35

I'm afraid that judging by the squashed frogs and toads I see on the road, they are not crossing the road safely.

Yes you definitely need to LOOK MORE nowadays because cars can be silent too now and they are bigger and more dangerous than bikes.Also think about where the driver sits in a car and whether he/she can see you from way back from where the 'eyes' of a cartoon car are.  Pedestrians should have priority now in some situations as the most vulnerable road user but we still need to be sensible and wear clothing we can be seen in especially in dusk dark and wet and not take that for granted - or that they are considerate law-abiding drivers!Eyes in the back of the head would be useful too so I've heard!!

Ha ha it is harder to type on a mobile!  Sometimes councils put special crossings for frogs and toads so that they can cross safely.If you put your postcode into the box on the following form you can find where the nearest frog and toad crossing is!! https://www.froglife.org/what-we-do/toads-on-roads/tormap/

I really think these could usefully be revived.

It would be good to see some adverts showing film of how difficult it can be to see pedestrians invdark clothing and cyclists without lights - and pushchairs that have no reflective paint/wheels/cover that pedestrians push out in front of them into roads in order to cross.

There used to be good adverts (safety campaigns) showing serious accidents and deaths caused by speeding or drunk driving or not wearing a seat belt. It’s a shame they don’t have similar campaigns showing serious accidents caused by cyclists riding in dark clothes or without lights or riding on pavements, through red lights etc.  It doesn’t seem to hit home with so many cyclists just how irresponsible they are and how they could be seriously or fatally injured. Such campaigns shouldn’t really be necessary but it is clear that so many cyclists have zero common sense or are just totally thick!

I yelled at another cyclist in the park yesterday to get and use a bell for creeping up behind me and buzzing past me too close at speed.There is a definite problem of some inconsiderate cyclists who do this - but then there are on the roads with inconsiderate drivers.
