RP: "The Japanese have it cracked apparently, with really secure places to leave bikes for commuters."RC: I'm not saying you're wrong, but I was in Japan a few years back, incl Tokyo, and I remarked on the fact that people didn't even bother to lock their bikes, securely or otherwise. I knew this because you would often see bikes propped up outside peoples homes, with kids' bikes just left lying outside on the grass!Anyhow, back to Chiswick. I can't remember where I read it, but I recently saw a report which indicated that in some London Boroughs, bicycle crime had been notably reduced, seemingly as a result of a concerted police campaign locally.Whereas bike crime had actually gone up in other, often adjacent boroughs. I couldn't help wondering whether the two weren't linked i.e. the thieves just started nicking bikes from outside their usual patch.
