Devonshire Road - vehicle access restrictions from CHR?

I'm having the devil of a job trying to find out if there are any vehicle access restrictions to Devonshire Road from CHR. I would be grateful for the info please! Thanks in advance :)

It's currently closed to vehicle access from CHR from 5pm to 8am except for disabled-badge vehicles and for access.When the junction works begin (next week?) there will be no vehicle access from CHR at all.  Devonshire Road will temporarily become two-way during the works.

I understand they are closing it for junction works, but why do they still need to keep the draconian closing at 5pm to 8am - especially in the winter - makes no sense whatsoever.

Totally agree this is a classic example of one size does NOT fit all. The council appears to have zero imagination. Makes zero sense to exclude access in the winters months. Our climate affects peoples behaviour and this should be factored in when coming up with restrictive measures.

The original restriction on access to Devonshire Road at least made some kind of sense to allow pedestrians using the shops and restaurants to safely spread into the road space.  The present restriction allowing traffic through during the daytime but not overnight seems perverse.

A fair number of people on this forum celebrated the present arrangement when it was announced. It came about as a result of lobbying from the local Councillors against the previous scheme which did indeed make more sense and created a really good atmosphere on the street.

Remember the reason for the hours for through cars in this scheme everybody. They are the opening hours of Top Hat. That's it. That is why Devonshire Road is Dry Cleaning World. The Chiswick Councillors lobbied to have cars driving past Top Hat because businesses are dependent on cars driving past them.Why are you not cheering Dry Cleaning World? Are you not entertained?

None of you ever got to Devonshire Road do you? People sit outside Tamp and Vinoteca all the time without heaters. Maybe people who walk and cycle for their local journeys instead of using their cars as coats and shopping trolleys are more aware of the concept of winter clothing.

The change of rules for Devonshire Road was to reinstate the access to the Glebe Estate for west bond traffic on the Chiswick High Road.  Until this was reopened traffic had to travel along the most congested stretch of Chiswick High Road to Dukes Avenue to access our homes. Not only did this cause delays to travellers but also unnecessarily added to the congestion on an already crowded Chiswick High Road.

Apparently Devonshire Road is a favourite haunt of the cycle lobby, and also apparently they like to drink and dine al fresco, so is this why the rather odd hours of closure from 5pm onwards was chosen?

The Chiswick Conservative Councillors lobbied to open the road to through traffic during business hours for shops, which they felt had been deprioritised in favour of bars and restaurants. They pushed for the hours to be Top Hat's opening hours. And so the hours are Top Hat's opening hours. 8am to 5pm. This is the Top Hat scheme. Dry Cleaning World. A whole street prioritised around the needs of people dropping off several large duvets at a time.Chiswick's safer streets campaigners lobbied to have the street closed to through cars during the day. As per the original scheme. The current situation was celebrated by the opponents of safer streets when it was announced on this forum. They loved it. I told them it was stupid and they celebrated my disappointment too. The posts are easy to find. They were so desperate for any victory at the time that they were happy to celebrate an empty one. This is the Chiswick Conservatives' and OneChiwick's scheme. I'm not surprised they are now desperate to disown it and fall back on trying to displace their guilt on the old scapegoat.

Paul Milligan says “Bring on the gas heaters so we can all eat on the street through the winter”. So he wants your street free of cars, so he can eat outside in November, that’s reasonable if you’re a selfish person,who doesn’t care how people  access their homes. Is he a cyclist, maybe, maybe not.

Paul Campbell  likes to visit Devonshire Road. He likes to wrap up in a coat, because he’s macho. He also likes it closed to cars as he likes the al fresco, sitting in the gutter, experience , likes the  atmosphere. So cars are a no no. Also doesn’t  care how local residents get home . He’s definitely a cyclist but he’s also a motorist. Maybe he drives there and parks nearby🤷‍♀️

Er, gas patio heaters are very bad from an environmental standpoint. I got rid of mine a long time ago though I'm not expecting a round of applause. I worry about people who seem to think they can pick and choose which form of  pollution suits them best.
