I wish the whole “listening “ council of Hounslow could disappear into this sink hole. The distress they have caused to residents is immeasurable. And STILL they won’t re open Fishers Lane.

Absolutely disgraceful isn’t it ! What about this hole, the article says it was found during planned works(which most residents are against) I presume the planned part was only ‘Tarmac deep’ and no proper survey was undertaken. Residents have always been aware that there are many little streams and Rooks that run down to the Thames, developers in the 1880’s just built over them. The Planning dept. Should be aware of this but apparently not.

"Hounslow council is to Russia, as Chiswick is [to] Ukraine."That doesn't make any sense.I assume the analogy you intended is:"Chiswick is to Hounslow Council as Ukraine is to Russia."The implication being that Hounslow has invaded and occupied Chiswick while mass murdering its citizens via cycle lanes.So standard OneChiswick fare for a Sunday afternoon.  Nice people.

Give them a consultation and they completely lose their minds. Angels and demons, totalitarian regimes, the invasion of Ukraine, immeasurable suffering. Just one of the ways in which this latest stupid analogy falls down is that the Ukrainians would never have got to where they are today with OneChiswick's relentless self-pity and misplaced entitlement.

Some might have thought you were trivialising the suffering of the Ukrainian people, but I think you're onto something. I've little doubt the Ukrainians would welcome extensive LTNs, especially if the Russians respected them! If not, the PCNs could help rebuild the country, although I bet some drivers would try to wriggle out with an appeal to the adjudicator on the basis that "Z" was not a uniquely identifying mark for their vehicle.

Quite right Julian.  The Evil Cycling Lobby are just annoyed that OneChiswick enjoys the support of the Russian State, as exemplified by Comrade Biddolph's star turn on Russia Today.

Far from any cancelling, I would like to hear more of James' suggestion.I think Ed and Paul have been far too quick to judgment. Obviously James didn't really mean to make a false, and rather insulting, equivalence, but offer a positive, if slightly far-fetched, way forward for Ukraine.

Paul.I am sure you must realise what you wrote was deeply offensive but misplaced pride prevents you from being seen to apologise. Let me help . Below you can copy and paste what I am sure you would really like to say.On reflection of course I realise including people suffering from mental health issues and dementia in my recent list of people against safer streets was wrong. No Adrian. Your misreading of the post and the list of causes for people opposing safer streets just show me how much you identified with many of the items on the list. Not surprising as you were in part an inspiration. As were all the other local opponents of safer streets. Not all self-pitying people with a misplaced sense of entitlement oppose safer streets either, But some do. I am glad that it stuck with you. I thought it would strike a nerve with quite a few people including you. So thank you for the affirmation and positive feedback. A creative always appreciates positive feedback.
