Guess who is building the cycle lane?

Yep cyclists. I saw them this morning. I'm fuming. Cyclists asked for it. Cyclists designed it. Cyclists approved it. Cyclists funded it. Cyclists ignored all the complaints from angry drivers. And now to add insult to injury cyclists are building the thing.  Makes my blood boil. Defund the cyclists.

Wouldn't happen without the Diesel dumper, the Diesel lorry delivering supplies the petrol powered compactors. Publishing one selective photo, which I presume you find strangly humorous, does nothing to reduce the rift between the cyclist and other road users.

Pauls just on another wind up.Atleast the photo is not like his TGT photo back in lockdown where the side view taken on on the pavement close to the shop fronts is noted as a long queue of people where in reality it was a group of about 6 girls standing in a group a little further up the road.Its what you call the art of deception

I understand why the cycle lane is taking so long now, all those stop start sections every 30 metres.  They most probably wanted to get the bus but kept getting berated for being late!But seriously.  I have been using the cycle lane and what I have noticed is EAST bound is a joke for people who want to do the whole length.  It's stop start really really often and waiting at the cycle lights is long.  I have noticed today most cyclists just ignoring them at the top of Dukes road and heathfield junction.  I also notice many East bound riders just don't bother using it, so now we have a cycle lane for cyclists and cyclists using the east bound road..

All over London the message is the same, this is from Greenwich.  Anyone understand the grip of the cycle lobby? “So, we can look forward to increased congestion with reduced carriageway width, whilst still having cyclists on the pavement endangering pedestrians.Is it ok if pedestrians use the cycle lane, as it'll be safer for us there given how little they are used by cyclists ?”

The traffic counts from the cameras along C9 show over 80% of cyclists are in the cycle lane between 7 am and 7pm, peaking at 85% when vehicle traffic is highest. Even at night, more than two thirds of cyclists use C9. A proportion of cyclists in the road will be using it simply to access or leave C9. Nearly all cyclists choose to use C9 when motor traffic is highest through a combination of its perceived relative safety or because it offers them better progress.

Yes we know, people are flying from all over the world  to discuss it , again! Thousand and  thousands of air miles every time they discuss the climate crisi. Yet my few miles a year in a car is a problem .  So the climate crisis , that’s why cyclists are on the pavement? yes that makes sense

It's Tom's percentages again! 80% using the cycle lane could be 8 out of 10, which would make the facility grossly uneconomic. And are these more cyclists than used CHR before?  Once the extra number of cyclists starts to equal the fewer number of cars, we might be onto something. Meanwhile, if cycle usage is increasing, I look forward to the floods in Pakistan subsiding as a result.

You don't all have to fly to COP27 to take part.  COP26 was in Glasgow. A percentage is just the right measure for the proportion using C9 rather than the road.In actual counts the average is 3000 cyclists a day, with some days close to 4000. Bike counts are regularly over half of car counts at peak times, and compared to the counts before the bike lane, the reduction in car counts often matches the increase in car counts.I’m sure you don’t really believe that there’s no point in taking any action unless your personal contribution can make a noticeable difference, so why deploy that  hackneyed argument in this instance?

Percentages are good if you know the starting point and the ending point. Otheriwse they are meaningless short term

To make any real difference it needs sweeping changes that only national governments can introduce/impose. And I don't include a few LTNs in Ealing.  Unless there's a change on the way, the UK government is still discouraging land-based wind generation and offering tax relief for oil and gas investment, and is unlikely to require any major changes to building technology or to properly tax or restrict air travel, or...

"COP26 was in Glasgow?"  Where have you been if you didn't know that?The scientists have been telling us for thirty years+ that there is a problem.  The oil and gas companies have been dragging their heels and the Govt has been doing the same - scared that once in power they will lose it by doing anything unpopular.  If you spend so much time just reading and re-tweeting anti-cycling propaganda you are never going to see a bigger picture of the world.

The Telraam counts are all over the place, cyclists, pedestrians, HGVs and cars. The TfL counts are much more reliable - they even have two cameras making the same counts independently so you can cross-check consistency. The highest weekly weekday average at the junction with TGT was the third week in June with 3213 cyclists. The last two complete weekday counts for the second and third week of September averaging 2945 and 2812 a day.You can download the raw data from the TfL FOI site, FOI-1589-2223, up to the end of September. It includes King St as well.

I had a quick look at the king street count Tom (S97_KingSt_cyclelane_and_road) it averages about 2000 cycles a day.

Looking at the figures July to September (92 days), I get this.221950 cycle lane, 25248 road, 2948 path.So per day, 2412 cycle lane, 274 road, 32 path.

That's consistent with my figures and gives 89% on C9, 10% on the road and 1% on the pavement. The counts are also slightly higher on weekdays.The claim that cyclists mostly use the road or pavements is clearly incorrect.
