Pret.

I’ve been informed that Pret is opening a branch in Chiswick .Hope is does .

I may be misremembering but I'm pretty sure that I read that a Pret will also be opening on the Ballymore site in Brentford.

I’m a bit conflicted about this.  I do like Pret when I’m out and about but I wouldn’t really want one on home turf mainly because it would likely take business away from smaller independent places.  NIMBY?  Yep, guilty as charged.

There are lots of nice (independent) bakeries and coffee shops which I'd certainly go for a coffee or pastry etc. But personally I don't think there are any of these along CHR that are as good as Pret in the sandwich department. I'd note my opinion is slightly skewed by the fact nearly all of the incumbents insist on the being pre-made and nearly all with cheese (aka the work of satan).  I don't think Pret is anything special, but is of a reasonable standard and consistent.  I'd love to see a good quality sandwich shop with decent bread and a counter where you could choose your fillings etc. If i've missed one, please tell me!

I agree. I have wondered why Chiswick hasn't had a Pret, when many other areas have multiple branches. And although we do have many coffee shops, with new ones seeming to open all the time, there isn't really anywhere to get a variety of sandwiches, or have a sandwich made up. Trinity Cafe at the junction of Bath Road and TGT was a bit like this, but seems to have recently closed down?

Was a really interesting TV show last night about the rise of the sandwich and sandwich shop from the 80's on our high streets. Had input from all the first players like M&S , Boots etc then went on to feature all the shops we know today. I was gripped, and it was just enough to sustain me until my next selected program.

If a pret opens il buy a monthly pass and save myself a fortune. Much better idea than collecting 12 stamps to get a free one

I'm pleased Pret's coming to W4. Generally very clean, half-decent sarnies, nicely equipped for an hour or two on the laptop if you can't make it into the office (and/or don't want to crank the heating up), oh, and I've already got the subscription. It's all looking *Rosie Lee.*Other hot drinks available.

I suspect the decent ones like (IMO) Waft, Tamp and the Post Room etc will continue to do well while the ropier ones will struggle.

In my opinion M&S used to be the best pre made sandwiches. I think they've really gone downhill so I certainly welcome Pret opening. I do feel sorry for some of the small cafes though who will be hit hard I suspect

I think even in thse times that some independants who's so called large coffee has become way to expensive over others operators cost.I can think of one who's price for a large coffee that resembles a small to medium in other places is not pricey but more of a ripp-off.We know coffee has risen in price as well as other costs and operational costs but some will just price temselves out of buisness.Quality,qauntity at a fair price without cutting corners will allways serve you better in the long run.Thinking about pricing. I wonder what the overal profit was for the tuesday in the george @£1.77 a pint compared to a tuesday @ full price. Given it was very busy and everyone would have purchased atleast 3 drinks @1.77p each.Given the numbers were likely around 10x+ a normal tuesday id love to know. Perhaps a once a fortnight same offering may me a good move,who knows?Love to know

The Fullers Tuesday deal didn't include lager so that automatically excluded a load of customers. I think all pubs chains will tell you they sell way more lager than real ale

Askew Rd already has a ginger pig and several artisan bakers. Gail’s in Askew Rd will probably mean even fewer trips to CHR for us. Do you think it’s a good thing Gail’s is coming, Marlene? Which site are they taking?

Have a quick google of 'Pret employee reviews' before getting too excited about this new opening. It's roundly reported to be a toxic and underpaid place to work.Personally, I find their food and coffee pretty awful so will be giving it a miss in favour of decent spots (Tamp, for example).

It is a few years ago but my nephew had a good experience working as a student with Pret and found its corporate ethics to be quite robustly adhered to.While I like its sandwiches, I agree with you about the coffee though. People should make the effort to walk to independently owned local cafes which provide better coffee and experience - my favourites are Tamp, Hothouse and Rhythm and Brews but there are many other good ones in the area. I noticed the other day that Cafe Trinity by Turnham Green station has closed so the survival of these places is often in the balance.

Coffee is a personal choice when it comes to taste.Some like it bitter in taste,some like it milky,some even have choice of milk for the taste.I personaly dont get why you would have sprinkled chocolate on top of coffee As to reviews. Look for it and your find it 9 times out of 10 where it has many reviews over just a handful
