Upcoming roadworks on South Parade

In the article on the homepage today about the upcoming roadworks on South Parade, there is this info:There will be ongoing work adjusting kerbs, channels, gullies, and some footway areas on South Parade. Footway widening is taking place near the junction with Rusthall Avenue to address narrow footway by a mature tree.Do you think this means they will chop down the tree?!?!

One thing is for sure the road is very narrow and one has to pull over for a bus to pass so any widening of a pavement is mad. So the people planning this and spending out money actually ever go the area they want to change? south parade is so much busier than it has ever been even before the A4 works, it’s a residential street I say LTN for all residents in Bedford Park only, same gig as Grove Park….

No This must be wrong They mean the tree near Ramillies road on the basis that anyone with mobility issues cant get past the tree as it is taking up most of the pavement. That I get and unfortunately the tree has to go. Can't even get the right location? Don't tell me they are widening the pavement on the green side which hardly anyone uses. ? I bet you they are. Clueless

The tree has to come down but the pavement can not be widened it is already too narrow for cars and a bus/coach to pass. Given the madness of filtering all the traffic into the same roads the congestion around chiswick is crazy and south parade is a residential street now it’s a major artery, just mad planning.

South Parade is a B road (B409) with residences on it. Arguable whether it's considered a residential road.

Andrew, a park one side, houses the other and not enough room for a bus and car to pass. I have never seen such traffic on this street in 35 years. The planning of traffic in chiswick has gone crazy and I really feel for those who live on this street. Trying to get out of chiswick during peak times has never been as bad as it is now regardless of the A4 works it was bad before the A4 works and after Covid restrictions and now horrendous.

Well said Jayne. It was already unbearable along South Parade well before the A4 roadworks. We live on Rusthall Avenue. I think the truth is that it is a combination of factors but, surely, it’s time for a re-think as the current congestion levels can’t be good for anyone?

It is not great and i totally agree jayne. forget road works and stats,people are just cutting out others routes becasue they are bad. Even the Avenue has become more busy not that its a traffic jam but certainky used more as are the side roads.

Julian, from my observations it is the south side that is currently being altered.  It looks as though the parking from Fishers Lane west to St Albans Church is being removed and the pavement widened.  The plastic barriers obscure the view of the works from South Parade but that is what it looks like from the park.

Are ok But why,no person uses that pavement,or am i missing something. If im correct we widen the pavement hardly used and loose the parking spaces to other locations.

Hi Jayne,I recognise the description and many’s the time I’ve pulled over to the kerb to let a 94 or 272 pass the other way (too young to remember the 88 bus!).If you want to make the roadway wider what would you do? Narrowing the pavement is one option. The only other (realistic) option is to remove some parking spaces. Widening the pavement doesn’t seem to be the right thing to be doing.The point I was trying to make is that South Parade isn’t as much a residential road as the many roads that join it e.g. Ramilles Road. It feels a bit more like the Avenue (another B road).

Andrew whether south parade is a residential street or a B road it is taking too much traffic for an area that is classed as residential except for a handful of fabulous shops on the corner, a few the other end next to the garage. With the park on the other side many residents use for children to play, walk their dogs etc. traffic has no option but to use south parade opening fishers lane outside of school time perhaps being the compromise would make a huge difference. As I have already stated I have never seen the level of traffic on south parade that has been building over the last few years. Every time a council changes the flow of traffic it has consequences for other roads so we need to look at the bigger picture not just on a local level and find better ways for drivers to go about their business.

Hi Jayne,I think you’re right that South Parade has too much traffic. Whether things will improve much when the A4 roadworks conclude is anyone’s guess.My personal experience is that the worst hold ups are from East to West ie going in the direction of Chiswick Park tube. I’d be up for a trial allowing all traffic to be able to go south along Fishers Lane as I said in a different thread.
