Chiswick W4’s Chris Blackwell is a different Chris.Also involved in music (and a fine drummer amongst other things) but he didn’t start Island Records.

Can anyone remember the title of a sampler album they released in about 65/66, Had Free, Traffic, Jethro Tull, Spooky Tooth I think. Not those band's best tracks, but a good introduction into what was about to happen. It might have been something like Altogether Now??

It sounded as if it was going to a be fun and an enjoyable community event with the school children taking part as well.

It was.  We trooped across to the park bounded by St. Peter’s Square where, apparently, Bob Marley had once been photographed playing footy.  The Mayor of Hammersmith was there together with several H&F councillors and former Island Records luminaries - but no Chris Blackwell - numerous giants of black music who performed for us, as well as ‘Wendell Park’, the very young a capella group you mentioned.  Finally there was the unveiling of the blue plaque.  A lovely way to spend a sunny October afternoon!
