Having just checked this on on the ground -
It would seem that a fair proportion of tne empty shelving in the meat section, at the back left at Sainsbury Chiswick, could best be described as "grubby looking", at best. And certainly not in the sort of state that any self respecting reader of W4.com would allow into their homes, let alone their kitchens. Nor even in the shed down the bottom of their gardens, in some cases no doubt. So why should they be expected to put up with it, on the meat shelves in a major supermarket ?
* A quick wet finger test reveals that much of this grubbiness isn't in fact dirt, but chipped and abraded enamel. Which does raise the question what sort of enamel was specified in te first place, such that it gets chipped and abraded by polystryrene trays of meat ? No matter over how long a period. Neverthless chips and abrasions are unsightly, and can harbour germs and there's no real evidence that these shelves are regularly cleaned at all.
An industry insider informs me that Sainsbury have never ever been the same since Mr John* retired, and that nobody really cares any more. So that maybe contacting them would be a complete waste of time. And no vouchers either,
