Local History talk 6th October at 11.30

We are hosting what promises to be a very interesting talk on the history of Chiswick given by Vivienne Bales, a historian and archivist and the Chair of the Hounslow Heritage Guides Association, at 11.30 on Thursday 6th October at our premises in Oxford Road North, W4 4DN.  The talk is free and open to everyone.  Light refreshments available.  More information:  ageconcernchiswick@outlook.com.  Buses H91, 237, 267, 110, 440.  Gunnersbury tube.

Does anyone know if there's a professionally held and preserved local history archive for the area overseen by a qualified archivist? I did look up an e-address and got no reply.

When I visited  Chiswick Library  the other day... I enquired if the excellent  Local Studies Section was open (upstairs). "Only by appointment" I was told! Sign of the times?I enquired if the formidable James Marshall (the top notch local.historian) was still around.He's retired was the reply. What? No fanfare? A news item missed.That's disgraceful

+ Most enjoyable.. + A well delivered talk.+ It was not a Goodbans and Mylos    syllabus.+ It was how our Chiswick Region   evolved.+ Rivers,streams,flooded pastures.+ Wildlife arrived.. including     Hippos! + Humans, fishing and agriculture.+ Pathways..Dead Dockey Lanes!  (Honest she mentioned DDL!+ Roads in dreadful condition.  Horses and traps.puddles and   more+ The gentry having grand houses   and grand sailings down the River+  Fulham Palace,Kew Palace,   Richmond Palace,Marble Hill etc.+ Market gardening..feeding London+ Water water everywhere.Laundries+ Fullers Brewery ..beer healthier   than water!+ shipbuilding..Thorneycrofts.+ Boat repairing..and industry.And that was just half of it!Regret not identifying Margot and Colin.Went for a coffee with a friend afterwards to Tamp in Devonshire Road. We met Ruth Cadbury MP who was passing by. A good day and thanks.
