This sounds like a guy who has been wandering around Marlborough Crescent, Bedford Road, etc. He came to our door and rang the bell at about 11pm a couple of evenings ago, asking for money. We have since seen him approach a house at the end of the road, but he moved off when he saw us looking. I should probably have called the police, but I do wonder if they would be interested seeing as no crime was actually committed. I would certainly suggest everyone, particularly in the Bedford Park area, keeps an eye open.
