Ealing council planning permission

Hi all, At the back of our property, there are 3 separate neighbours who have roof top terraces. As we have an old roof that may need work soon, we thought to see if Ealing council would grant a roof top terrace. It seems as though that the said top floor flats have had these outdoor spaces for some time and gotten them approved over the years. Not sure how generous the council will be for a brand new application for a roof top terrace? Any advise/thoughts are appreciated from you all who are knowledgeable and long term residents as we have not lived in Chiswick very long.

Ealing are generally not keen on 'roof terraces' that overlook neighbouring properties.  You might need a planning consultant to make the best case for you and to design something acceptable.

Thank you, the roof terrace would not overlook any of the neighbouring properties would  be brick on 2 sides, and tall frosted balustrade on the other. However just unsure re Ealing and their ‘generosity’ re roof terraces.How have other properties managed this? Have they just had unofficial terraces and then managed to get these granted?

Planning rules change over time - so it is entirely possible that these roof terraces were approved with no problem. I would start on Ealing's planning website for guidance as to what is and isn't permitted, possibly you could find this comes under 'permitted development rules?

Roof terraces were problematic but they seem pretty easy to do now even if they overlook neighbours. People have got away with them for years. I know of one person who after reinforcing the previous roof to a floor, having bespoke railings and having very expensive furniture in place, continued to maintain that it was merely somewhere to hang out washing.
