Funeral cortège Chiswick Mo day 19th

Although It has not been officially announced yet, the Queen’s funeral cortège will most likely pass through Chiswick on Monday on its way to Windsor. The fact that the A4 roadworks are suspended  means this is probably the route the coffin will take. Leaving Westminster 1.00. And arriving at 3.00 at the lo g walk in Windsor for the final procession to the castle.  I am sure an announcement will follow.

I read that the procession will be on foot from Westminster Abbey to the Wellington Arch, and by car from there.

On Wednesday around 5pm there was a motorcade along CHR escorting Princess Anne and Prince Andrew travelling West, each in their own limousines.

There is an article on the front page which seems to contain most of the available information. The police probably want to leave their options open just in case of unexpected delays, protests etc. but there isn't really an alternative to travelling along the A4 until the elevated section at Chiswick. Therefore you would be able to see the cortege at any point before then between here and Hammersmith. The best spot might be the Hogarth Flyover if they close it.

The George and Devonshire will be a good spot because the cortege will be slowed and so you will get more than the briefest glimpse - it's where I used to stand for the Ride London races.I don't think the Hogarth Flyover will officially close but cars on it may stop to get a good view and you may be able to weave through them to get the best vantage point.It is likely that if you choose to stay at home for the state funeral and then walk down to see the cortege all the best vantage points will be gone.

The Gun carriage will arrive Wellington Arch 1.00 and then the coffin transferred to the Hearse and the route to Windsor as follows. I have heard a number of people say that the car will transfer to the M4 for a short while somewhere between Chiswick and Brentford - something about avoiding the Chiswick Roundabout. Does anybody know whether this is the case? Thanks.

Agreed Anne. There is vagueness about whether the Cortege will leave the A4(westbound) just after Havard Hill and then ease down to the Chiswick Roundabout, and then join the Great West Road.. ie not going on the M4 at all.Alternatively..is the Cortege going OVER the Chiswick Flyover, joining the M4 for a short distance as you say... and leaving the M4 at J2 at Clayponds Lane, Brentford  and proceeding along the Great West Road...and onwards to the Great South West Road.So there are two options.. but neither made clear from the Authorities.

I cant' see how the roundabout will be an issue for outriders to hold traffic for the time it will take to traverse so my money is on this route however time will tell.

Police and outriders will most likely be in slightly more numbers to get further ahead because the arrival at Shaw Farm Gate windsor is a precise time of 3.06pm. They do tend to get these precise time correct I very much doubt your be able to stop or stand on the hogarth flyover as that is a security risk.

Hounslow website says just about all roads are closed to traffic that’s route and access roads - as well as under and overpasses think from 11?

Just so you’re all aware you won’t be able to cross the A4 by any means, car or foot from when the road closes not sure for how many hours. It could be 6

Good point Vivienne...and thanks to others about the restrictions crossing the roads.To be sure I get to the west side of Harvard Hill...I'm going to walk via Strand on the Green and up Dead Donkey Lane(South)!

VC: "Not by subway?"Possibly not, on the basis that police and security want everyone visible as the hearse and VIP's go past?Also, in theory at least, someone could set off a bomb underneath the road?(I'm speculating, btw)

I presume the VIP coaches will be passing the top of Harvard Hill as well...soon after the Hearse passes.What a procession... and so close to Wolseley Gardens too!
