BinaAs he is only six it is probably worth considering the following before you start shelling out for a private tutor.Does he have a diagnosed specific learning difficulty such as dyslexia or dyspraxia or is he learning English as a second language? Is he in school or Is he being educated at home? If he is in school and he is significantly behind the national average then the school is required to make provision different to and additional from that which is available to other pupils.If his needs are very significant enough then a parent and/or the school can request a statutory assessment of his needs which might then lead to a legally binding Education, Health and Care Plan which could identify specific individual teaching for him.If, on the other hand, he is of average ability in his class or age group and is struggling then a good tutor might help by building his confidence. If you want a tutor to give him an edge for when he applies to secondary school then I would think that it’s far too early, I strongly suggest that you discuss this with the school.
