From Thatcher, Reagan, Gorbachev and Deng Xiaoping via Johnson and Trump to Truss, Biden, Putin and Xi Jinping, the quality of world leaders has taken a steep nose-dive. However, we should not be too quick to condemn Liz Truss - let us at least give her a chance to show what she can do as PM, and let's pray that hope will indeed triumph over experience. At least she isn't a stale white male !

It seems the main hitters in the new cabinet will be from ethnic minorities or female.I hope they have been promoted on perceived merit as it's a sham otherwise and a disservice to the citizens of the UK and to them.In fairness,they don't have much of an act to follow whichever department they are to head.

You may not like what you hear - but it is something to make you ponder and not to leap into something that isn't doable. in other words someone to tell you when to remove your head from your a*se occasionally. Toadies wherever they are from or whatever gender or background are a waste of space.

The same Harold Wilson who was referred to during his time in office as the worst prime minister since Lord North. The one who said "the pound in your pocket has not been devalued" while record inflation was beginning to take off. I think it was The Frost Report that concluded its prediction of the year ahead with "31st December - Harold Wilson says 'It's not the end of the world' 1st January - the end of the world."

Record inflation! Get your facts straight. Even after the November 1967 devaluation (it was in that context that Wilson was talking about the pound in your pocket) inflation only rose to 6.4% in the last year of Wilson's second term. It had been much higher at the start of the previous Conservative Administration, and of course it went much higher still during the demon Barber's occupation of the Treasury!So Wilson is to be damned for one unfortunate statement, which puts him ahead of the perpetually lying Johnson in the competition for worst PM of the century! And what about keeping us out of the Vietnam war, or presiding over a massive expansion of house-building, or for the two Race Relations Acts, the Sexual Offences Act 1967 (the Wolfenden Report in 1956 recommended decriminalising sex between adult men in private, but in eight years the previous Conservative government did nothing to implement the recommendation) and the Divorce Reform Act 1969? Is it that record which qualifies him for worst PM of the century?

Robert, you will know as well as I - that RG will go back into the annals of history - even if he could, to the Neolithic age to make a point about his 'whataboutery' obsession. None of us can ever be allowed to criticise these bloody awful Tories. I make no bones about my political affiliation - but neither would I defend some of the failings of the Labour party, and didn't, even when I was an active member. You can never put things right if you are not prepared to admit what's wrong, I think we all 'get' that Covid threw a curved ball into things, but as well as that it is the view from people far more sensible and knowledgeable than I that Brexit has caused far and away more and longer lasting damage to this country. We've had a Tory government since 2010 - and look at the state of us, all this breast beating about not doing anything about building more nuclear power stations - so whose fault is that? Privatisation has not been the answer to all our prayers - and now it seems nationalisation is no longer a word spoken of in hushed tones. RG can cut it whatever way he wants but we're in deep do-do and no amount of harking back into history can absolve this bunch of clueless Tories from the responsibility for it.

In fairness to Gordon Brown I think Blair stayed on a year too long and handed him the poisoned chalice of the credit crunch and the mess left by Iraq. Still,if you can't stand the heat etc.I think the Gillian Duffy debacle is still haunting the metro(London)-centric Labour Party and has coloured many a staunch old Labour voter's view of them.Theyt aren't looking up to much now, either despite the shower that are in now.

No, Richard, I'm not saying that, but you would doubtless wish to infer it. The large spike in inflation in 1951/52 was the result of a huge increase in commodity prices caused by the Korean War. But who or what caused it is irrelevant - the point is that your comment about record inflation during Wilson's second term was well wide of the mark.

So did I very straight talker will be interesting to hear about the energy policy tomorrow. I would not make oil & gas pay more than the windfall tax they are already paying but I would make them invest in the UK a with the extra profits to secure our future energy independence.  Also interesting to see if they tackle the regulations around renewables, electricity which are currently against gas but are not suffering from price hikes so they are making massive profits. Interesting front bench fingers crossed for more straight talking from the women 😂😂😂😂😂 girl power 😂😂😂
