Walking dogs in the heat

If you're walking your dog in the heat, especially between 0900 and 1900, please wear a fur coat and walk barefoot ...just so you'll know how it feels.

There is a lovely Newfoundland dog in Chiswick, which I saw being walked by its owner (or possibly vice versa) this morning - the owner was being very careful to ensure the dog was in the shade for as much as possible.That it is one careful owner who obviously loves her dog

Leave a bowl of water out for dogs passing by, owners don't always take water with them or it's used up before they get home.

If you are going to walk your dog, take a few steps on the pavement in your bare feet just to check it's okay.

If you can hold the back of your hand on the pavement for five seconds it’s probably all right. But that doesn’t preclude the need for other sensible precautions - like walking in shade, taking water, going out early or late etc.

We also have a black lab that refuses to go in the garden so needs a walk around the block, we obviously keep him in the shade. People should not be so quick to judge 🤔

I think they are saying that the rain water doesn’t penetrate ground that’s got really dry so easily so the rain water isn’t getting to where it needs to get to

Most resovoirs are 60% capacity and all major resovoirs are just that. What they are doing is predicting not enough rain for next summer using a crystal ball

Its not the levels now they are thinking over but the level next summer.

Yep, Tory policies which allow companies to give squillions to shareholders and utilities bosses while failing to fix infrastructure including leaks impose hosepipe ban on those who just want to be able to water their small gardens, drink waterand wash.  I'm sure as a Tory supporter you think that's great, Jane.

I completely support private enterprise, it give millions of people enormous opportunities. I don’t believe in government running anything they are useless at it….we have very old infrastructure which will take decades to upgrade. Thankfully gardens will not need watering for too much longer as autumn draws close, the rain this week will give gardens a real soaking.

"I don’t believe in government running anything they are useless at it" I always wonder why people talk about nationalisation when they allso talk about govmt not being able to run the country and are out of touch with most people. As they say,nationalised industries are usually badly run so end up being privatised and become badly mismanaged. Whats the 3rd option ?

It surely can't be impossible.  Privatised industries need to make a profit for their shareholders, so they have incentive to achieve that.  This must include pressure on the workforce.  The old nationalised industries were rather lasses faire in this respect.  But, if you take the NHS, I would say that most who work for it are proud to do so, and work hard.  If re-nationalised industries were made attractive: they could be regionally organised to give a sense of belonging, and workers could be partners in the same way as John Lewis works.  Instead of making a profit for shareholders, if the system was efficient, surely the country would welcome this and feel the workers deserved bonuses and a share in their hard work.

Regionally organised now that would take a miracle you only have to look at chiswick run by 3 different councils who seem incapable of working as a team in the interest of residents. Never going to happen. I was stunned when reading about civil servants complaining about have redundancy pay reduced from 4 weeks for every year worked to 3 weeks, seriously so this is how and why government running anything is a joke and we the tax payer is expected to fund these outrageous conditions.  Very few if any private companies can afford such extravagant redundancy packages. Who are the mugs here the tax payer..

Please don't leave out bowls of water - they have the potential to spread infectious diseases such as kennel cough. Dogs may be asymptomatic and not all owners keep their sick dogs isolated.
