Mortgage Deposit Scam

My brother nearly got caught out by this yesterday. He was about to make the payment in an HSBC branch. Thanks to the vigilance of the bank staff who suggested he make a call to his solicitor. Disaster was averted. His solicitors email had been hacked.  The payment was almost made to the hackers account. Always phone to confirm using a publicised number (ie not on a forged letterhead) or visit in person. Thankfully HSBC seeme4d to have learned their lesson. As the HSBC Kilburn Branch was used to open numerous fraudulent accounts as detailed in the article.
