.... in the shade and rising according to my temperature gauge.Will it hit fourty?

One pleasure is reading the various published lists of top tips for surviving the heat, sleeping etc.  One of these suggested chilling your socks in the fridge before bed time.  I’m embarrassed to admit that I actually tried this.  To nobody’s surprise they heated up to normal foot temperature in about three minutes and so had to be taken off again.  Bonkers.But I do find a cool shower works for me.

45.2! That's amazing.Mine has dropped back to 39.3 which was a little disappointing however my instrument has a recording function and shows it hit 40.6 earlier today.

Having Carbonara for dinner and got the Tagliatelle out of the freezer to cook it - and it makes a brilliant cooling device - not elegant - a bag of frozen pasta on your head - but it works!

I'm not sure I've ever seen the Back Common quite so deserted (or dessert-like). Not even the Speedo-clad gents one usually sees when the sun comes out were brave (or daft) enough.

Noel Coward, who coined Rudyard Kipling's phrase Mad Dogs and Englishmen would likely be apoplectic at the sparseness of the Common.Are Chiswickians frightened off by the nanny state warnings, or more likely, aware these days of the dangers of skin cancer?A big plunge pool and a shady bar nearby would likely bring a volte -face.
