Are retirement homes and pubs a good mix?

The report on the front page that there is a plan to development retirement homes on the police station does worry me somewhat.Time and time again there have been cases of people moving into the vicinity of the a pub and then being surprised when there is some noise. Often their complaints have led to restrictions. I'm guessing the people who are able to afford the rent for one of these properties is also likely to be able to draft a well-argued letter to the planning authorities. Is it possible to have protective covenants for neighbouring hospitality businesses written into planning permission? If not I do fear for the Fire Station bar and even the George IV.

As a reg to the George i think the only noise outside both premises comes from carol singing boys and girls at christmas

Sound insulation at the George must be pretty good if that's the case ... they often have bands playing inside at the weekend.

Sounds a perfect mix to me as a potential purchaser of a retirement home.Having a couple of food and drinks outlets on the doorstep would be a great selling point.If you wanted to spend your declining years in peace and quiet you'd have to be a little eccentric to choose the Chiswick High Road.

You dont hear it down the road where the police station is or if your even sitting outside the fire station. There is even flats above next door and accross the road.

How about the regular markets? Would you want to have those on your door step? The markets possibly,  but the crowds of people. Not sure.

It would be a shame if the ground floor wasn't commercial space to drive foot traffic and keep the east/west continuity along the pavement.
