Station House

Good news for thirsty folk in Grove Park!The Old Station House Pub looks as if it's about to re-open. The shuttering has come down and today people were there getting it stocked and ready for customers. I don't know what has happened with regard to the development plans, but this is a step forward - it's such an iconic building and the whole piazza has looked very sad and depressing. Let's wish them  success and maybe drop in now and again to offer our support in the shape of a glass or  two.

Walked by today and loads of stuff ready to be stacked on shelves.  I will certainly visit and hope they keep going.

I mentioned in optimistic refrain about the reopening, to a local pal who remarked that ‘in 40 years, no one has made a good go of the pub’. I’m still optimistic, but he has a point. Previous managers / owners seem to ignore the basics about running a good pub, over and over again.

I’m told they hope good food will carry them off. There won’t be much ale variety - Camden Ales. Let’s hope they have a bar culture at last, and ‘friendly staff’ are not just people saying where you can sit. As in not at the bar.

Is it still part of the Punch Taverns group?  I haven't seen a new licence notice posted - isn't that required if it is restarting under new managers?

The new managers have set up a web site - https://theoldstationhousechiswick.co.uk/No indication as to who is behind it but it looks like it isn't a Punch Tavern any more.Presumably they have found a way to grandfather the previous licence over to the new business.

The "Duck and Ball" pub has been launched in Riverside Drive... close to Sleepy Valley... the site of the old Fullers Brewery Sports Ground. Home of CHISWICK Cricket Club and  Old Meadonians..one wishes them well.

Is it new or is it just a rebranding of the clubhouse at the Chiswick Cricket Club which used to be called the Pavilion?If it is, I hope they haven't changed it too much, it's a real gem.

In reply to cricket club question only a name change it is as before. Perhaps they changed names because there is a pavilion locally in Dukes Meadows.Regarding The Grove Park sorry Station House I hope it succeeds but they will have to do better with there ale than the previous lot. So many times I had to take my beer back as undrinkable and have something else.

I just had a chat with one of the Station House staff who was busy getting the pub ready to open......which is scheduled for 5pm this Friday (July 15). Initially they're just serving drinks but are busy recruiting and hopefully will be providing  food too. I know the place has a chequered history, but it's a brave thing to take on and I think it's worth giving them a fair chance.

Thanks both for the update on the Station House and the info on the Cricket Club.Are the people running it the same crew as before?

Not in the case of the Station House from what I could gather though it is still owned by Punch. It would be interesting to know if the redevelopment plans have been shelved. It really is a massive building and under-used as things stand. I don't know how much renovation has been done to the interior; by the time it closed it was pretty shabby. I'll stick my head round the door when it opens and report back.
