Automotive Manufacturing UK

Automotive manufactoring is reported to be at risk due to our electricity prices being 59% higher than most EU countries. Why is there this difference?

Germany has higher electricity prices than the UK so clearly there are other factors that influence how a particular sector of industry performs in a country.

Belgium and Spain (both volume car producers) also have higher electricity prices.

France has nuclear, so they're sitting pretty right now :-)Pretty soon the UK will be a wind powerhouse with excess energy to export.

I blame Brexit for our relatively low electricity prices.

You'd expect electricity to be cheaper if we get it from our own wind generators or our own solar panels or our own nuclear power stations.  But that doesn't happen because of the 'world market', so either someone along the line is making a huge profit or there's no point chasing more economical methods if it doesn't make any difference to the price we pay. In fact, aren't we all paying a surcharge for 'green energy'?

Isn't France's nuclear energy cheaper at home because it is state owned and the state can set the price?  How much of the energy produced here can we use and set the price for?

Zero because I and you will be subsidising the infrastructure of green energy for years and years-long after we are gone with no benefit coming back to the consumer.Just like the green tax,no benefit to the consumer whatsoever when it comes to your bill

If the extractive and generating industries have been poisoning us and the planet for over a hundred years, then they should pay for the required cleaner greener approach and not we consumers, who've been on the receiving end of the poisoning for generations!
