Traffic A316

Traffic had been very heavy recently on A316 heading towards Chalkers Corner from Hogarth roundabout. Anyone know why. Can’t see any apparent reason. Has phasing on lights changed?

There was a gas leak further up the A316 near the Lower Mortlake Road earlier this month which is being repaired. Perhaps traffic is being throttled over Chiswick Bridge to avoid gridlock further up.

I got caught up in that stationary queue over Chiswick Bridge yesterday. The problem was caused by faulty phasing of the lights at the south side of the bridge. Hope it's fixed by today.

A key cause are the roadworks on the stretch of High Road just before Kew bridge with temp lights. This causes Chiswick roundabout to seize up and then back up along the High Road as far back as Waitrose every evening. Northbound to Kew Bridge from south of river also bad. So traffic is diverting onto A316 both north and southbound. The Kew roadworks hopefully ending soon, but then weekend closures in store for several weekends after that.

I came back along the A316 yesterday morning and was shocked by the traffic going the other way. Very hard to get to Kew or Richmond by car at the moment.

I contacted the editor of this side because I was getting confused about the dates of the road closures. I was told that TfL have confirmed the 24-27 June full closure and that provisionally there will also be a full closure the following weekend if the work isn't completed along with the southbound lane closures.

I’ve just come back to the Hogarth Roundabout from there and traffic in the other direction towards Richmond looked back to normal. It seems to be always queued back from the railway bridge over the 316 towards the Hogarth Roundabout and flyover these days but it does flow.
