Nik, re the points you raise:1) A reasonable speed is one which allows for the vagaries of cyclists, pedestrians and dogs, which may involve slowing to a crawl when unsighted on passing parked vehicles2) No-one deemed Chiswick Mall a public recreational facility, but that is what it has become in practice.3) Forgive me, I assumed your problem was getting out of Chiswick Mall, since you referred to the necessity of getting kids to train stations, etc on a timely basis, and therefore assumed you lived at the Church Street end. Now I understand why you have to drive all the way down. But why is returning home so time-sensitive?4) Yes, I think it is unrealistic to expect that people will stick to the pavement, given the number of people who walk along Chiswick Mall, and the fact that many, especially tourists, don't see it as a vehicle through route.5) Saving dogs is an admirable sentiment!Finally, were it not for the exigencies of delivery drivers, I would suggest that entry to Chiswick Mall should be residents only. It's a shame that speed limits below 20 mph require individual consent from Grant Shapps. There's a very good case for restricting speed on Chiswick Mall to 10 mph.
