SoGA & GPG - South Chiswick LTN Public Protest

SoGA+GPG+Burlington Lane+Park Road Residents are organising a Public Protest to draw attention to residents' objections to the current South Chiswick LTN. The demonstration will take place outside LBH Council Offices on May 31 when the newly elected council meets for the first time.  A survey of residents underlines the anger already extensively expressed to the Council about the disjointed measures imposed on the area and this is an opportunity to encourage the new administration to meet our needs. Matthew - both residents' associations have websites and both list their aims and the members of their elected committee. The associations are speaking on behalf of their membership. I can only assume you are not a member of GPG and/or SoGA.

Perhaps rather than making facetious comments mr Campbell you could try understanding the problems that these random road closures cause. I do a lot of work in that area and driving is the only option I have to go there.There’s no indication of how long one can stay within the Strand on the Green area before passing through on what, ostensibly, would be a through journey. Even the residents don’t know. I know a number of tradespeople who won’t do jobs in that area now.But then you probably don’t give a monkey’s about people outside your narrow interest group.

By the way Simon (I'll stop laughing at the angry motorists for a second to make a serious point) you do know of course that the people organising this protest want to extend the SOTG timed access restriction to the whole of the Grove Park and SOTG area by having nine cameras covering all exits and entry points. They want to fine any driver who drives straight through the area without stopping. They are not protesting to make it easier for people who live outside the area to use it as a route from the A4 to the A316 or from the South Circular to the A316 or A4. They are protesting to make sure that people who live in the area can drive without any restrictions at any time while amplifying the confusion and fines for those who do not live in the area.

The problem is that these piecemeal restrictions don’t solve anything. Clearly the main reason for implementing them is to raise revenue.Of course, what’s not publicised in all this is the long term aim of eradication of private car ownership in London. Although Sadiq Khan, the capital’s presiding genius, will still insist on being ferried about in his 4x4.

It will be interesting to see how many people actually turn up to a demonstration. There has just been a local election which gives a good indication of opinion. Conservative candidates who strongly opposed the South Chiswick street changed polled 1055-1105. They lost a seat returning two councillors. Labour who were responsible for actually bringing in the changes polled 926-1064 and gained a seat for the first time in 30 years returning one councillor. The Green Party who I’m guessing also are in favour of the changes polled over 500 votes. As a Chiswick northerner I love Park Road/ Staveley area now. I imagine it’s a lovely place to live.

The chances of a libel action against paul are 100% zero. Do hope this is not going to be swamped by protesters who do not live within the three main roads and the river. Their contribution has never had community cohesion and benefit at heart. Perhaps the campaign would more safely be renamed “Nine Cameras”: The solution for a low traffic neighbourhood.

NB. It is not accurate to say it is merely “claimed” that 80% of residents oppose these measures. The figure is nearer  91%, registered on the council’s own endless streetspace surveys, the results of which were completely ignored.

Steve -Not to worry, in this day and age all it takes is a simple screen shot to memorialize evidence. There are multiple copies of Paul's offensive post. If I'm not mistaken, the going rate for this type of libel evidenced by Karen's and Jeremy's action with Maggie is roughly £2500 plus the demand for a written apology posted on a public forum and on Twitter. The precedent has been set.Over to you, Paul.

This thread has generated a number of views - some relevant others way off track.  I think it important to focus on the South Chiswick traffic measures and how best to get them amended to suit all repeat all residents together with their visitors and deliveries etc. To that end SoGA+GPG+Burlington Lane continue their discourse with Lbh traffic and intend to emphasise their determination with a public protest outside the Council Offices on 31 May at 6:30.  If you feel strongly that SCLTN scheme need amending then come and lend your support.

HOW TO GET THERE?I suspect, like myself, a good number of folk are unfamiliar with the area around the Council Offices so would it be useful for people that are to tell us the best places to park, bus route,nearest tube station etc.?Also, if you are going by car maybe you could think about giving neighbours a lift.

The post has apparently been screen shot by many. So no need for ChiswickW4 to intervene.  In my case my public apology was due to be posted for a certain length of time, can’t remember how long. Once that time was up I struggled to get W4 to remove it, they just seemed very slow to respond. I wonder how Mr C got his post down so quickly. Too late 😂but quickly !

Would the only way to benefit all residents of Chiswick be to remove these ridiculous restrictions.  The school street restriction is now far beyond what a school street restriction was meant to be.  Is it right that you can drive into Staveley to get to the cemetery and the school but must drive back out the same way?  Why is that when it is out of school hours?  Do they ever explain their reasons for these draconian schemes.

Have you told the Chiswick drivers who live outside the Grove Park and SOTG area that your alternative proposal will prevent them driving through the area in any direction, will close to them the current through route south along SCR and across to Hartington and will be altogether more restrictive to them than the current scheme with nine cameras issuing fines at every entry and exit point?Or are you waiting to tell them that outside Hounslow House?
